Not really clued up on them tbh but seriously looking into buying a set in the near future.

I have a s80 4.4fd (basically a S4C as far as I am aware with the ratios)

Looking at

3rd: 1.695
4th: 1.384
5th: 1.000

Just going to use oem 1st and 2nd. Would this be a good choice? Should I replace the syncros as well?

Engine is a B18C and will be used on the track.

Thanks for any help :nice:

What tracks you running on?
You used a gear calculator?

Mainly knockhill. Hopefully get down south and try a few at somepoint.

Yeah they seem ok for track (top speed on 195/50/15 is roughly 129mph) but I still use my car daily. Should have mentioned I am wondering if they would be ok for daily use as well? I don't do much motorway driving

When I had the old b18 ek9 with the 4.9fd s4c I felt the top speed was perfect for the ring,
Never been round knock hill but doubt you'll hit 130hp there anyway?
What's the rpm at 70mph?
Mine was almost 5k

What's the stop speed with 4.9fd? How was the acceleration as well? How do you think just a 4.9fd would compare to a gearset and 4.4fd? I'm just wanting it to have maximum acceleration :)

Edit: knockhill you could get 120+ out the straight :)

I'd rather the gearset of course.
I only had the 4.9 because it came with the car.
Felt it matched the engines power pretty well though.
Sounds abit like brands, I could just about kiss 120 on a good exit.
You'll be on the limiter in 5th a lot if you ever go to the ring though.

Gives me another option to consider with the FD.

I do plan on doing brands at somepoint as well and I really want to do the ring which I know the gearset won't be great for like you said it would mean 5th gear limiter quite a lot.

I had 139mph top speed and I was holding it off the limiter in some places.
What's your rev limit on your b18? 8600rpm?

Not sure if my clocks are 100% accurate but I can hit 9k. Jdm b18c on standard ecu (still limited at the moment). Getting mapped around February time.

I'm not too clued up on it but would have thought the stock 8600 limiter would be inplace.
If you get abit more over the 8600 it's only going to help at the ring.
Tbh I think you'll gain more time around the track from the shorter gears than you'll lose from being on the limiter for afew secs.

Yeah I'm not to sure either but it revs all the way to 9000 (on my clocks anyway) my old b16a2 went to about 8200ish on the same clocks.

Looking likely I will go with the gearset shortly after it's mapped.

I would if it was me.
If you feel your on the limiter all the time then either raise the limiter alittle or play with slightly larger tyres?

Yeah I could always try 195/55 if I am on the limiter a bit much to see if it help.

According to Mfactories calc if you had a 9k limiter and 55 profile tyres you'll get 140.
Which is ok round the ring I've found. Literally two places where your on the limit.
That's at 200hp.

Yeah even on 50 it's about 138mph which seems fine. Not like I will be doing that speed much anyway!

Exactly.
Up the hills is the advantage tbh.

Yeah and a lot of the main parts of knockhill are uphill :)!

Victory then!
Gear sets are boss anyway.
