Hi all, basicly my problem is on a d14a4 engine in my ej9, recently i had the timing belt done and now within about 2 weeks of driving the car the crankshaft pulley has loosened off Twice its just been the bolt that has loosened but it causes all of my belts(power steering alternator etc) battery light on but this time i tried to tighten it and i get it as tight as i can physically but the belts dont turn again. Just wondering if anyone has had the same problem or any advice, or am i best handing it to the garage

I'll have a check mate im not too sure as a friend had done my belt hope its as simple as that

well u say the timing belt was done but the crank pully tha runs the ps pump and altenater ar nothing to do with the timeing belt..

The bolt has to be torqued on pretty tight, I think it's 160nm (not 100% sure), that's tighter than some impact guns can achieve. Also some lock tight can help it from coming loose again.

has to be torqued to 140lbft or 189nm's altho that was for a b series engine but cant see this being much different

i take it the pulley never came loose before the timing belt change???

i would take it back to the garage that changed it and get them to sort it out

so the problem is that you cannot tighten it because the engine moves ? when i did my belt changed i had someone sit in the car put in it 5th gear and press the brake very hard with his both feet then i was able to tighten the bolt right up :nice:

remove the small tin plate covering the back of the flywheel and jam the flywheel/crank with a big screwdriver, but get someone to hold it as i nearly got the screwdriver in the face !

jamming things in the flywheel is not a good idea? how about using a crank pulley holder tool? simples :)

OR put it in first gear , take off the passenger front wheel and jam a crow/jimmy bar between the wheel studs and the ground so the hub doesnt rotate.

Thanks for all the help guys going to have another try at this,i'll let you know

Tried again last night but the bolt and washer were just spinning inside the pulley

How loosely spinning was it? Like was it gripping but just turning or spinning freely and have u replaced the bolt with another one? Sounds like its either not reaching the thread in the crank or it's been cross threaded.

When you turn the engine one it spins as fast as the engines turning but when you turn it off and put it in gear to tighten it, its as much as we can tighten it, the first original bolt came out the first time this happend and was replaced with another bolt yes

So it feels alrite when putting the bolt in by hand and it is going tight but then after a wile it makes its way loos again? Have you torqued it up to the correct setting? They have to be on extremely tight. We had a civic coupe in a wile back, d series engine and had to use a giant breaker bar just to remove the bolt. All impact guns failed.

Im going to get it it torqued correctly i have ordered a new bolt and woodruff key supposedly this could be the problem
