My offside outer CV boot has split a little. I've done a search and genuine OEM seems to be the way to go. Any ideas on cost? Was going to fit myself, but looks like a pain in the @ss, so I think I'll leave it for a garage.

Are these OEM, or am I better going direct to Honda?
SEIKEN OUTER CV BOOT CIVIC / INTEGRA - Civic EK9 Type R Parts - HONDA PARTS

Has anyone tried silicone boots? I imagine they would be more durable?

Cheers

Mike

i had mine done on my ej6 about 8 years ago and honda only charged me roughly £70 its only a 30 min-ish job.

i have oem honda boot kit (boot, proper metal clamps, hub nut and grease all in pack)

£25 + postage, quality of motor factor boots is no wear near honda in this case

as said a boot is a boot and an easy way to change it is to use a blade to cut the boot so that you can open it up, then put the new greace on making sure you take old greace out first and then super glue the boot back together leaving it to dry then tighten it on both ends with the clamps you get with it.

Really? I've seen the split type boots before, but everyone I have spoken to have said they never really last and you'll end up having to do them 6 months/a year down the track

well it really depends on how you want to do it really and taking drive shafts apart isnt really a job for unexperenced people.

some boots come cut like this and have glue supplied but i found them very annoying to use and never lasted. granted getting the drive off and on again is a 30-45 min job.

Cut the boots and superglue them back up are u mad??
DO NOT cut the boot it will come appart again in no time!

Buy a universal boot from a
Motor factor and take the outer cv joint off the drive shaft, slide the boot on to the shaft, apply the grease you may get with the boot, if not get some off the factor, tighten the boot up with some cv boot clips and your cooking :nice:
