I'm going to be swapping a d16z6 into my facelift 1999 ej9
I've sourced a engine, ancillarys and a stock p28 ecu with wiring harness.
Before I start to do the swap I would like to know what I'm doing, I've looked around a few forums and websites but I'm still confused
I'm okay with the mechanical side, but I'm quite confused with the electrical side of things.
Would it be better to use my standard wiring harness or should I just change it? (I believe my cars a obd2 and the d16 is a obd1) I've found a few wiring diagrams on the forum
Will I just have to change the engine harness or the dash aswell, cause it's different obd?
Also what happens with my current immobiliser/key? Will it still work fine with the new engine and ecu?
Ive read around and apparently the p28 doesn't have an immobiliser chip in it :/?
Thanks
Nik

Personally, I would use the D16Z6 wiring harness.
If your car uses OBD2, and the donor engine was used with OBD1, I would guess the wiring is very different, making it very difficult to merge.
It seems to me that it would be best to keep the D16Z6 harness with the D16Z6 engine, and use an ECU that is used for the D16Z6 (OBD1).
I am no Honda expert, but after some searching I do believe the "P28" ECU would be the one, but don't take my word for it.

Best of luck.

Not to contradict what your saying but I would use the loom for the d14 and run the couple of extra wires for vtec.

The d16 loom is obd1, the dash loom is obd2, it wouldn't work at the ecu end, jumper harnesses are only for running a different obd ecu to your matching dash and engine obd looms.

As long as the P28 has the correct map for a D16Z6 it will run just fine.

So you will just need to remove the ancillaries from your d14, such as the dizzy and alternator, put them on the d16 and use your d14 loom, everything will plug in and be good to go then.

Ecu wise, you will need a obd2b to obd1 jumper harness, im assuming your car is a facelift ej9 with you saying its a D14Z2.

Okay for the vtec wires to connect to the ecu will I be splicing into the engine harness or just running the wires straight into the ecu? I have found wiring diagrams on the forum
Yes its a facelift ej9.

And how do I know if my cars obd2a or obd2b? Ive had a look at jumper harnesses and there a few different types :/
Thanks

With your car being a facelift, it will be obd2b.

You will splice the wires for vtec into the jumper harness at the correct pin at the ecu end.

Okay thanks ive found a few diagrams explaing the vtec wiring

Not sure how much use this might be but i've done a D16 swap before into my EJ9 and just used a OBD2B b16 loom which fitted straight onto the D16 and worked great. Used the D16 ecu from the car but it was from a JDM honda del sol so didnt have an imobiliser and the engine was obd2.

Not sure on the differences between obd1 and obd2 but might be worth a go using a b16 obd2b loom with a ecu jumper harness ?

Ill take that into consideration, ill have to wait till I get the engine and check all the connections
Thanks
