Determining build date

My EK9 sits patiently in the UK while it waits to turn 25 years old, at which point I can import it to the United States. Mine is a 2000 model year car. NHTSA requires that it be 25 years to the day, not just the year, which brings up an interesting point - I don't know when my car was manufactured. I could potentially have another year of waiting if the car was built late in 2000.

Can someone help me understand how to find this information? I'm sure all US buyers are in a similar situation. I've searched around a bit and not found anything definitive. Unfortunately I don't have access to the car to search high and low for official labels or things like that. Help is appreciated!

My EM1 actually has the date stamped into the chassis. 9 January 1999. I'm not sure if its done on all EKs or just the American built cars.

Hey Magnus, Did you buy it from the person who had it originally imported? If so, they should have the importation paper work stating the month/year it was manufactured. Or trying running the chassis # on carvx which is japans carfax. Link below.

Since I bought mine while it was still in Japan it came with the paper work stating it's month and year.
