Ok, so here's my first question of many.

What are the differences in the EK9 models?

So far from looking at almost every bit of information I can find, I figure myself that in terms of performance there isn't much if any difference, but cosmetic wise, there's a little.

What are the chances of giving a '97 model the look of '99 via facelift after purchase? Excluding the body parts, would parts such as headlamps be easliy fitted?

Just looking for some more information regarding the models of the EK9 so that I get the right one before I map out a project.

I really like the dark/black housing of the headlights on the '99-'00 (I think or could be '96-'97) model but it costs like £1000 more just for a later model.

Pictures of the fronts/rears of either of the models would be nice if someone has them.

Thanks in advance for any info, cheers.

Everything is basically the same.

The differences on the later models are as follows....

Rear lights are different in colour, but not shape.

Front headlights are different in shape.

Bonnet is dirrerent in shape.

Front wings are different in shape.

Front grill is different in shape.

Centre console where the radio goes is a different lay out.

Think thats about it really.

Its purely cosmetic changes fro the 97 spec.

Thanks for the reply.

With all differences being cosmetic, which one has the headlamps that have the dark housing, or is it all of them?

One other question, the car in the forum banner @ top, that is the '88 or '99?

Thanks.

'88 def not! :D banner '9' is a 99-00 model... can tell by different bumer.

all CTR's hve dark housing if not mistaken... only that 96-98 models hve indicator bulge and 99-00 r smoother :)

Hmm, I don't like the wider front grill of the 96-98 then but very much like the fog light placement area in the 99-00 and narrow grill area. Gives it somewhat a more aggressive stance!

And since you mention indicators, I've noticed on some they're amber colour (like in the pic) and on others they're not. I've seen some 99-00 with clear lamps and was wondering what is the standard? Not that it matters much really.

But I quite like the idea now that all the EK9's have dark housing though. Still, I think I'm gunning for a '99 or '00. :p

i think so one should creat a thread and show taking identical pictures of both car so it would be easy for some one to know the difference between the two.

the face lift model never had a hand finished engine it was done by machine
and there was a change in the supension but what that was i cant remember
this may be wrong but was the ecu different also?

there was also an N1 version with no fancy heavy trim aircon etc and where the famous 5.7 0-60 time came from back in 1997

Lovely Rclub, almost fully briefed on this now.

It comes down to the 96-98 being the first version and the later 99-00 having been given a cosmetic makeover the second version. EK9 I and EK9 II if you will.

Thanks guys.

I believe there is a difference in suspension between the 2 (nothing a good suspension upgrade couldn't fix for pre-facelift). I don't know about the engine thing. As far as I know, all B16B's are rated at 185HP, so the finishing thing may not make a huge difference.

And chances are the ECU's are different cause I believe a 97 spec should be OB2A while a 99 spec should be OB2B. I figure this considering in the US, there are 2 cars available with a B16A2. A 96-97 Del Sol VTEC which is OB2A and a 99-00 Civic Si which is OB2B. They do have different ECU's which I wish I had a Del Sol one in my EJ6 hatch cause the EM1 ECU (99-00 Si P2T ECU) throws a code 91 for an FTP sensor hatches don't have. The Del Sol ECU doesn't look for that I think.

Other differences include the Type Rx version later released for the 99 spec that offered power windows and other things (that I kinda wish my hatch had, I kinda miss my EJ1 coupe). Of course the front bumper cover, lip, grille, hood, fenders, and taillights are different. I believe to the conversion you just need those parts (which should be the same for all 99-00 Civics excluding the grille and lip), and from what I heard on Honda-Tech, you may need to switch the radiator support. personally I like the pre-facelift (or Zenki if you will, I'm also a S13/S14/AE86 guy) better. Just not with US spec headlights, man I hate the US spec 96-98 headlights.
