anyone had this happen before ?

we were competing on the prom stages rally at the weekend in our new civic, which had a rebuilt engine and new gearbox, with new kaaz diff.

everything was going great, we were leading the 1600 class and beating a super 1600 corsa driven by a respected local driver with his new sadev 6 speed box,by a whole 8 secs, so we were really chuffed.

ran the car a little low on fuel and started to suffer fuel starvation dropping us 4's behind

big charge on the next stage but on a straight approaching one of the chicaines we lost all drive, the drivers side inner cv had come out of the gearbox !

no damage to the suspension, didn't hit anything, diff appears ok, the only thing i can find wrong is on the affected shaft, the outer cv is very stiff side to side, almost seizing

would this cause the shaft to pull out on full lock as there were a few tight hairpins ?

thanks

Ive seen a few do it and alot of other cars..

Sometimes its the inner plunge joint the spider/tripod bearing gets stiff and under a big suspension movement the shaft will come out as the inner joint isnt moving properly.

The shaft wasnt completely in

Or the spring clip on the shaft is worn so it isnt as secure in the diff as it should be

stiff outer joint on full look in extreme cases with poor bushings MAY cause this problem

its strange it popped out on a straight, but i would put my money on the spring clip

thanks guys, i'll replace the circlip on the cv as suggested

Eoghain, any experience of non honda cv's, are they a no no ?

cheers

what kinda power are you running?

i'd generally put in lock stoppers if using no honda cv's

mikecanics mapped it as 208.9 corrected flywheel figure, its on itb's/toda vtec killers, modified head,11.5/1 cr/tony law exhaust

there were 3/4 full lock wide hairpins, quicker to drive round than handbrake as it was dry, pressume the circlip popped out and then cv fell out eventually.

which cv, would you fit ?? new copy / new honda or secondhand honda with new circlip, i am on a budget, cant afford mfactory ones at moment as still paying for the dampers lol

used to run lock stops in my nova inside the rack, is this what you mean ?

also ran spacer between hub and cv, is this needed on a honda

thanks for your help:nice:
