Replaced both my shaft seals a few week back as they were weeping, checked a few days later and still i had oil leaking from the driver side shaft. I noticed the shaft seemed to be sticking out alightly so thought "i cant have pushed it in apl the way thats why its leaking"

So i took it back out and tryed to push it in further, it seemed to go slightly further in so thought great its sorted.

Checked again just now. STILL LEAKING!

Im wondering now, have i damaged/ not fitted the seal correctly. Im a Tech mysef so i know how to fit one so im nearly sure that isnt the case.
Or, is my shaft damaged and not seating correctly.

As you can see there is a fairly substantial gap between the shaft and box. I know it shouldnt sit flush but should there be that much of a gap?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts, ideal :nice:

Forgot to mention box is a S4c with cusco diff.

Hate it when that happens :nono:

Sorry I cant be any help, just couldnt help myself haha.

The hub isnt pulling it back out when you torque the hub nut up is it? Or is that how it always sits?

Haha was waiting on a shaft comment...

I think it must always sits like that mate.

Had another go at it today and it just simply wont budge. Looks like a new seal and another attempt. Beginning to hate this car lol

Had this problem myself few years back.

Bought another seal and got my mechanic I use for engine work etc to replace seal again.
Said they can leak if they get nipped or likes when fitting shaft.

Annoying wee buggers so hope you get it sorted.

got the same problem but mine isn't leaking.

Same gap between the gearbox and axle but no oil coming out.
Should i be worried? i'm trying to get the car ready for track and i dont want to lose an axle while i' racing...

No the axle wont come out, there held in on a compression clip. a slight gap is normal, the lower and upper wishbones attached to the hub is what keeps your driveshafts in. As well as the fact the hub nut keeps it held in place at one end.

The driveshaft cant physically come all the way out when still in the hub and the balljoints are attatched still.

Seal wise you may have just nipped it slightly causing the wheep. Id say get aother set of honda ones and and try again. Make sure you lubricate the inner end of the driveshaft splines and avoid contacting the seal when fitting

My shaft came out of the diff when the circlip popped and I lost drive, was probably caused by the outer cvs going stiff pulling on the inner joint

Is the circlip engaged in the diff ?

Just a quick update on this.

Fitted another new seal and no leaks now. i had nicked the inner wall of the seal when fitting it it would appear.

I wouldnt try this at home without a seal fitting tool/kit. I used a kit and still damaged it so take special care when fitting these or get a professional to do it.

I did one yesterday with my thumbs alone! Wasnt easy mind but isnt leaking.

Suspect the old one wasnt either!

Make sure the surface is nice and clean and the seals straight. Can be a pita sometimes
