How accurate is the air fuel ratio measured on the dyno when the use a exhaust probe?

I would say it depends on the equipment being used & the condition of it!
95% of tuners use this method but i would prefer a wideband & guage wired into the car to the 100% sure i was getting the correct readings!

Why do you ask if you dont mind me asking?

Well i went to dyno day today at M-tec near bristol and the results were way off. It was a dyno dynamics rr and the people (kids) didnt seem to be to clever! The fan they used was tiny more like a hairdryer and my af ratio was all over the shop APPARANTLY. The car had its af ratio checked by my tuner on the road with a wideband so it just dosent make sense. And the killer it made 168@ the fly but everyone there was just so down on power something was not right. Standard s2000 made 214 should be 240 and a supercharged mx5 making 13 bhp over standard, this seemed to contiue through out the day making most people not happy! Im going to book a power run at powerstation in tewksbury near cheltenham as they have a sealed chamber massive fans and a good rep. Just made my day a bit depressing really!

Dont worry about it mate!
I know its put a down-er on your day but all dyno's will read diffrently mate & this sound's like one of the low reading ones!:angry2:
If your tuner has checked your air fuel ratio with a wideband wired into your car & that was ok then i would be trusting that more than a probe up your exhaust!
What is the spec of your car if you dont mind me asking???
& what kind of numbers were you expecting to make???

As we have all said befor dyno results mean nothing really unless you have been on the same dyno befor so you have a true comparison to check agenst!!

Dont let it get to you to much mate, as long as your car peformes on the road/track then thats all that matters really!!!!!!:secret:

Dynodynamics dyno is also called the heart breaker dyno for that very reason, its typically run in load bearing mode which reduces the power A LOT and if not set up properly it will also reduce the power a lot. I used one once and the machine told me i was making 185whp at 15psi!! I left and never paid the guy, my car was actually making 317whp at that time!

B16b engine stroked to 1800 using brand new ITR crank & Rods with EK9 pistons with new rings, full engine gasket set, ACL bearings, ARP rod bolts, Hondata intake gasket, ACT lightweight flywheel and clutch, ITR 98 spec manifold (heatwrapped), ITG panel filter, spoon intake pipe, fujibitsio legalisir exhaust, de-cat, AEM adjustable FPR, bottom end all balanced, Energy engine mount inserts. Running on mobil 1 fully synthetic with fuelling mapped by apexi neo on the road by Peformance Autoworks who also built the engine.:nice: Car feels strong so much more torque with the bigger displacement :D Going to speak to my tuner just to ask what he used to measure the fueling and go for a power run at a different dyno! PS she should be making at least 200@ the flywheel!

To be honest they sound like pretty accurate Dyno-dynamics figures..

Surrey RR gives VERY similar figures to that for the same cars so i wouldnt be too downhearted.....the only figure that could be low would be the S/C MX5 maybe....

Surrey RR figures are:

~165-170fwhp for a Stock EK9

~170-180fwhp for a stock DC2

~215-220fwhp for a stock S2000

The fact that all the cars tested were down on factory figures should at least make you realise its a dyno issue rather than a car issue...:nice:
