EK gearbox? DC2 Gearbox?

Hey,
Sorry for reposting this thread if it has already been posted before.
I am new to this forum. I am located in Australia and I am about to buy an EK civic GLi but apparently the gearbox "needs some work". I also located a DC2 B18C Type R engine that is for sale which comes with the gearbox and ECU. I am planning to do the engine conversion and was wondering if the DC2's gearbox will be a direct bolt on to the EK or do I have to get the original EK gearbox? If not, what else do I have to do?

Many Thanks,
Dan

the dc2 gearbox will be directy bolt in, it is externally identical to the ek gearbox as long as your ek originally had a b series engine in it.

Thankyou blinx9900 =]
I dont think its a B serires engine tho. I think its one of those standard D series? Its a single cam 1.6L non VTEC engine.
So what would I have to change? or buy?

Thankz!
Dan

If its a D series engine then the DC2 gearbox wont fit at all nor any other B series gearbox for that matter. In order to run the dc2 gearbox you will need to be running a B series engine in your EK and also you will need to change your hubs in order for the B series driveshafts to fit.

ok in that case you just need a motor mount kit for a 96-2000 civic with a B series engine, or you you can just upgrade the driver side mount to the 99/00 usdm CIVC si mount, this should allow you to use all other existing mounts (rear and tranny.) its been a while since i did a swap so i am not 100% on this but the mount kit for sure will solve your problem and the dc2 engine and box will drop right in, wiring should not be too difficult either.

LIES all LIES!!! you don't need to change your hubs at all.

I guess thats going to be ok then as going to change the gearbox together with the conversion of my D series engine to a B18C. so the gearbox should b fine. Just need the hubs right?
Also, I know it is easy for a B series engine to be swaped with another b series engine, but what would I need for the conversion of my engine from a D series to B series? would I need to get stuff like B engine engine mounts? what else??

Thankz,
Dan

oki, Thankyou both heaps! Ignore my last post as I didnt refresh my page.
I will let you guys know how it is when i'm done!
Thanks again!

Come on now Blinx not all lies :D just the hub part. If that is the case that there interchangeable can you put B series brakes on a car that has a D series box and driveshafts?

In short YES and for the long answer here we go:

-First you must know that the brake setup is independent of the gearbox and engine.
-With that said we now know the spline count is the same on Hubs regardless or what engine (D or B) came in the car originally.
-On USDM civic/integra there is pretty much 3 sizes for front rotors:
*9.5" 4x100 small hub Found on the base model cars with sohc engines
*10.3" 4x100 big hub Found on higher civic models with D engines and nearly all integra models with B engines
*11.1" 5x114.3 Found on Integra Type R

now I'm going to stop here, so to answer your question YES, not only can you put B brakes on a car that has a D engine, Honda MADE them that way on a few models :blinx:

Going to a 5 lug hub when using a 98+ b18c type R is one option, but that's a lot of work. You can just use regular b-series axles with stock hubs.

Yup yup...

EJ8 coupe and EM1 have same front brakes and hubs, but EJ8 has rear drums, where are EM1 has rear discs; both still use 4x100 pattern.

EJ8 = D16Y8 SOHC Vtec
EM1= B16A2 (I think...) DOHC Vtec

:D
