brought my car in for the nct on tuesday, and all good except for the emissions, the car has the same exhaust and manifold and cat converter on since the last nct,.. here are my results from the nct in 2009..
low idle
co 0.08 vol%
hc 0ppm

high idle
lambda 1.022
co 0.19 vol% 3000 rpm
hc 74 ppm 3000 rpm

test for 2011
low idle
co 0.50 vol%
hc 368ppm

high idle
lambda 0.87
co 4.99 vol% 3000 rpm
hc 192 ppm.. 3000 rpm

the engine management light does not stay on all the time, the car i was told is running rich, and would like to get this sorted,, so anyone with any ideas, please let me know cheers,

-Check ECU engine coolant temp sensor
-Check your lambda sensor out, see what it's reading

Have you checked what code the ECU throws when it does? Or is it too random to catch? How does it run?

could be a bad lambda lad, that what my car failed for, if you goggle it theres away u can do a bench test on it at home yourself to cheak it out, i had to do this but cant mind now how

the car is on standard ecu, running a bit rich, but flying, fifth gear is like third, and thats with a overdue service, will have to take the cat converter off and check the inside and then suppose put a new lambda sensor in,, but that is only guessing, could do with a garage that has the emissions testing kit..

Your lambda sensor is faulty.

cheers for the info man. in your opinion just the lambda sensor, cos if its the cat convertor then i am looking at some silly money for a new one,, and lets face it man times are hard and money is stupidly tight...:ek9:

Well judging from the lambda reading it's clear the sensor is faulty it's causing the car to run rich. Replace that and drive it fairly hard before test to heat the cat up.

also fairly obvious but if its service is overdue make sure you do it before the re-nct as this will make a big difference to emissions also ;):D

cheers for the info lads.. will do the above and let ye know if she passes second time round...:ek9:

have tried looking on e bay for a lambda sensor but no luck.. anyone got a thread for getting lambda sensor..

well man took the cat converter out the other day and it is grand, put new lamba sensor in and done the service, got a emissions test done yesterday and she is spot on,, waiting to go back into the nct next tuesday for the retest, but all is sorted. she will be getting a nice little tickle heading over to the nct, heat up the cat and lamba,, so cheers man for the info and help, was wrecking my head not knowing what was wrong,, so thanks to vtec 6000 for the advice

make sure when driving to the nct not to drive flat out, to clear the cat properly u must drive in 4th or 5th gear at a constant rev of 5000rpm or slightly higher, but do not engage vtec

Hi Pat70
I'm having similar problems with my sir ek4. failing on high idle CO and Lambda readings. what lambda sensor did you get that solved your problem?

Forum says he hasn't been on since 2012 so might be waiting a while for a reply

Is the car bad on fuel? My lambda was goosed, was doing around 30 miles for £10-15! Changed it and now it's great on fuel.

Please check dates of threads before posting, reviving a thread from 2011

Lambda's can be found on eBay or on tegiwa i believe? Have a search on there

Cheers
