Hi Guys, this may be a bit a a really stupid Q, but i cant seem to come to a resolution within my own mind haha so i need to make sure.

i have been thinking of late, what if one put some Ek9 cams in an ek4.(B16b cams to b16a6 to be precise). usually one require some sort of management system when changing cams - then it occurred to me. What if one changed the ecu from the b16a6 to one from a 9? sure then it it would run as per normal.

but my mind is telling me that this wont work, reason being is becasue of the different characteristics of a b16b opposed to those of a b16a6.

please confirm guys.

A few years ago my mate dropped some Type R cams into his ek4 with a ek9 ecu. I did warn him the fueling may be out but 6 months later he did a dyno power run made decent power and fuelling was ok.

Interesting, although the ecu engine loads would be different isn't it? Also isn't the rod/stroke ratio different as well?

if you do that get an ITR throttle body and injectors ... will brind things closer to the b16b the injectors are slightly bigger so would be a good idea.

should be fine but a remap will benfit more as you will be getting full benifits from any mods you have too

Very interesting I must say then! But then how does one go about remapping a stock ek9 ecu without the use of a uni chip etc.I'm not planning on doing it but I must say it sounds pretty tempting when weighing up the options and costs of each here. Don't the b16a6 need the dual valve springs tho to cope with the 9s cams(or is that only if one revs past the stock limiter of 8400)

Also I'm assumin here that the 9s ecu is a direct plug and play to the loom of the ek4? ( Again wouldn't this be provided/dependant on the model- facelift or pre facelift)

mapping you can use a apex neo if you dont want to chip the ecu but chipping ecu with chrome or something like that will be better as more control over fueling, ignition etc , spings be ok as long as you only rev to stock limit for the ek4 , ecu will plug and play as lond as it from facelife or non facelife

Pre facelift ek9 ecu should just plug straight in.

Also I think all B series injectors are the same.

thanks for the replies Dunx. the above is what i suspected, here in SA those methods arent heard of, so we would use a chip. but then i would have no need for the ECU as the stock one would work fine.

shot guys!
