EK9 Race base front frame brace WOW!

Ok guys, I was watching a couple of videos of EK9 and noticed a frame brace at the front of the radiator. I asked Japan about this certain brace and they said they couldn't identify it from the parts diagram until one day I asked them to check the 98specR race base model... and guess what? Tada! they found it!

It only exists in the Racing base models that you specially order just like the current FD2 CTR which ends up being stripped off from the factory for pure racing and ends up being cheaper too!

The parts below are the parts that bolts onto the front of the radiator support somewhere onto the chassis.

I've lost the diagram and will ask it again from Japan. Will post it up for everyone.

i spent ages lookin into brace that appears on some ek9 (similar to rear brace that sits behind bumper but front is square) and couldnt find anything on it and assumed it was mod that some owners did by just welding it in as its standard on dc2

Im race base owner too. Im also a panel beater. This brace is basically lighter than a bumper bar that usualy goes behind the bumper on normal civics. Its a piece of inch box joinig the two chasis leg extensions togther instead of a big bar

I saw that from aj-racing.com couple years back and I thought it was from spoon for weight deduction purpose. na... I learn that these are for some EK9 and I think you guys are right maybe it's for race base model.

It's a lot smaller compared with the standard version.

Its exactly the same as this pic.

If your 98specR has had an accident, then it wouldn't have survived. Normal EK9s don't have this bar as it's specially for the 98spec R Rase Base model that you specially order when brand new.

I've order a set of both for myself since I'll be interchanging facelifts now and then. It's surprisingly cheap.

This is the real deal! Even not many locals in Japan know about this. My supplier found it only after looking into the race base model manual.

It's available for GF-EK9 and E-EK9 if anyone is serious to order some, let me know.

jugbugz, I really can't see anything from your picture. IMO the rebar is exactly the same as this one unless you could show an actual item picture or a EK9 with bumper removed.

hard to tell from them pics, need pics of bumper of or of bar when you receive it,

ive seen few ek9 pics with it now but always welded on so maybe optional only when ordered from factory like you say

also, part no 8 and 12 you list is differenmt for e-ek9 and gf-ek9. whats difference, im guessing it whether you have aircon or not

i agree on this too...

as 'jugbuz' said upon opening this thread its cheaper & lighter therefore included frm stock on race base only..!

however i do believe the behind bumper reinforcement bar is safer to hve on road cars...

God forbid you hit something with the front of your car, that little bar will do NOTHING. Id rather have the front bumper reinforcement then that to be honest with you. Thats like taking out your air bags because it weighs down your car lol. But to each his own.

look carefully, the large fat bar your showing in your picture is a part of the radiator support. The bar in my pic is much thinner and square in shape.

hmm didn't know this would've caused much confusion, I'll try to get a diagram of 98specR from Japan. Nevertheless, this part is not on the non-race spec EK9 parts diagram.

I don't think its a replacement for the bumper bar. That wouldn't be road legal in Japan at all and no way you can register it in UK for road use.

My EK9 came with no bumper bar, because the idiot who had an accident didn't replace it.

The pic shows that it sits visibly lower than the bumper bar and isn't running across perfectly straight.

btw, this video is from Type R legend, and just as the narator mentions 3 reinforment bars, this is the 1st bar, front strut bar is 2nd, 3rd is the very rear rebar sitting right behind the rear bumper. Not including the sway bars or the small one next to the rear sway bar.

the radiator support is different on the GF-EK9 and E-EK9. Thats why you can't install a 99-00 bumper on a 97-98 car without some cutting to the radiator support. It seems like it bolts onto something.
