Hi guys

This will be my first track experience in my own car. I would appreciate some advice on preparation setting up my ek9 for the track and precautions.
Things I've thought of should I do a full oil change before I go and top up oil after,
Will I need top up coolant,
should I take some spare wheels and tires in case I wreck them,
Should I bleed my brakes before?

All input and advice would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks

General service before is a good idea. For a new track driver the brakes are likely to be quite important, what brake pads do you have now and how old is the fluid?
Full day or just a track stint like 20mins?

Can you break down general service mate ie oil change, spark plugs etc. I'm not sure what pad's but brakes are immense. I have abs but sometimes the brakes lock up, weird thing is braking hard after full throttle and the brakes never lock up and have great stoppage.
Currently only booked 20mins mate

I'd just do an engine/gearbox oil change if they haven't been done in a while with decent quality oils.
Assuming the brake fluid is relatively new and not old halfords stuff?
Tbh for only 20mins you'll be fine. I'd take a socket set with a torque wrench(if you've got one) if not then chances are I'll be there with mine so no big deal.

If you can might be worth getting in the passenger seat with someone else abit more experienced before its your turn.
You could learn a fair bit about track etiquette and general awareness before you end up out there yourself.

I've had a full major service done less than a 1000miles ago. The car hardly gets driven and is garaged for months before being taken out again. I think I will defo do a full engine oil change and brake fluids, and spark plugs ngk heat rate 7. Thanks for you're offer mate greatly appreciated, fingers crossed nothing goes wrong!

Could I hop into yours lol. I've been in my mates dc5 at Silverstone, I was buzzing just being a passenger.

If you've only just done it and you put quality stuff in then leave it, you'll be perfectly fine.
On the other hand if it's a piece of mind thing then crack on lol

Assuming I do come and I manage to get track time then I don't mind taking you out talking you through some of the dos and don'ts for your first time out.
Even having a passenger that's experienced can be very comforting...

You're a star mate that's really kind of you. Let's see what happens nearer the time. Really looking forward to meeting you guys can't wait now.

Since you are only doing a 20 minute session and that you have recently done an oil change, I would just check the fluid levels. I would also check if your car is mechanically sound, checking brakes, suspension etc. If you have a loud exhaust you might want to bring along a silencer just in case it doesn't pass the noise test. As for tyres you will not ruin them in 20 minutes unless they are already pretty worn out. I would just bring some oil just in case you need to top up on the day.

Excellent thanks for you're advice, greatly appreciated. I've ordered a exhaust bung hopefully the car will pass however I'm feeling doubtfull as it's a buddyclubspec2 decatted..

One more thing people tend to forget, bring water and a snack for yourself.

Very wise pal good advice. What's you're personal opinion do you think the buddyclub will get through with a bung on it? Another thing do any of you guys buy track insurance, if so any recommendations?

Spec 2?
Can assure you, you aren't getting on with that exhaust, bung or not.

Sell your tracktime and forget about trackdays is the only other option.
Find out the noise limit for the day, it's likely around 105db static, I had a spec3 on an s2000 that was easily 110db and the bung isn't likely to bring it down enough.
How do you live with a spec2? They are crazy loud lol

Got some rethinking to do now. My car hardly gets driven but when it does its a event. It sounds and feels like a race car, I can't explain it but owning and driving my ek9 is a experience nothing else comes close.

I've had the loud exhaust thing.
When you think about it most real race cars have noise limits to comply with....
So really to be racecar, is to be compliant with noise limits.

Fair point I get where you're coming from, but I've heard plenty of cars at Castle Combe silverstone and the nurburgring which are a lot louder than mine I wonder how they get away with it?

You sure you've got a spec2? Spec 2 is literally the loudest exhaust your going to get on anything, ever....

Nurburgring static limit is 132db btw..

Worth noting that some series like btcc have higher noise limits than our trackday limits.

Personally if it was between my car sounding like a racecar or being on the track like a racecar then it's the track everytime.
