Just wondering if ek9 seats were strong enough for use on a ttrack. Any one ever heard of the back collapsing in a crash ect ?

Wouldn't think the back would collapse as they are recaro and will be made to a decent standard I would imagine

There was a video going about somewhere of the dc/ek recaros in a rear smash. Was a crash test video, didn't look good lol

I think you would be in the same situation with almost any recliner though to be honest

Yeah I would have thought so.

I had intended to keep my recaros in the car for comfort, but I'm leaning towards some fixed backs the more I think about it

I'll go buckets eventually, want an spg though so lol

If they're safe enough to put in a production car for a crash on the road I'd say they'd 100% be fine on track too?

By that logic -
Seat belts are fine on road - safe enough for track too? Or do many still fit harnesses for the day - or perm?
No helmets are fine on road - safe enough for track too?

I think its safe to say the speeds on track are considered to exceed that of road, and the likelihood of a high speed collision (where the speed differential between the objects colliding are much greater on average than they would be on road)... likelihood of rolling etc also higher.

That being said, I'm happy enough to use my EK9 with standard seats. They hold me well enough for the cornering speeds im able to achieve. But I hadnt considered how well the might/might not hold up if I did have an off..

As above really, without knowing the standards of the tests in japan at that time I do doubt they where crashing ek civics at track speeds.
When I crashed my first 9 I bent an fia legal seat mount (3mm steel iirc) by quite abit.(bucket seats where fine) but that shows the forces at play.
Saying this I'd still rather sit in an ek9 recaro than a rep or untested bucket seat.
I think you'd have to be unlucky, the crash would have to be at the right angle I think, come to think of it i vaguely remember a video of someone crashing at brands in a Honda and his passenger come straight out the seat iirc.

This video isn't too sad. Does simulate a rear collision though

Can't be any worse than being taken out by a lorry at 70mph? Rolling down the side of a steep hill/cliff?
Ofc seatbelts and seats are fine on the track. You can take a standard car on track, people just uprate things because it's better/safer by choice. Racing is different but for track days? You can reach track speeds on a road easily... In fact probably more..I know I've run out of track before I got anywhere near top speed lol

I get what you guys are saying, but the seats in our cars weren't made for 30mph bumps only, you could easily have a nastier/high speed crash on the road and they must take that into account when they make them!

Vid of teg seats breaking in a crash on a trackday. Don't know if the back breaks or the seat bolts come out?

That's the video!!
One fact is safety ratings have come up to a high standard over the last 10 years or so. But I don't know what Japan's laws are regarding this, I mean the dc2 has the same seats and was sold in the uk so assume they past uk levels back in the day.

I wish I hadn't just watched that now,

Most likely just sheared the hinge part, wouldn't take a lot

He was out cold for a second there! I think it's the reclining mech of the seat that's failed, the passengers entire weight moving at a good 70+mph was put against that seat.
Forward accident the seats are probably man enough.

Good job that car didn't have a cage really,
If the passenger had been flung back on to a bunch of metal bars it would of surely messed him up
