Hey guys,

Well, so far i have bidded on four ek9's in japan and not been succesful:mad:. Hopefully i will get one at the end of this week when the big auctions start up again.

Anyway, i joined this forum with zero experience of ek9's and after 1 test drive and everyones opinions of the car i have fallen in love with them :D When i get my 9' i plan to do the basic mods....intake, exhaust and header.

Intake - can you guys give me opinions on the systems that you use or systems that you've heard are meant to be good....at the moment im thinking of the aem v2 or mugen intake but am open to ideas!

Exhaust - again, opinions of what you use....i'm currently thinking about the bc spec III, spoon n1 or a 5zigen system. I like a nice exhaust note....not necessarily the loudest.

Header - currently tempted for the 5zigen purely for the value for money and i cant justify spending the extra cash on the toda header. any opinion on the 5zigen and others?

Also, when it comes to the intake i've read that the standard airbox with a spoon panel filter is good? i'm confused between the pro's and con's of the different styles of intakes.....anyone elaborate? *enter blinx, rvm, manos etc*

Cheers guys.:D

as you've said, the standard airbox with panel filter is good. downside to the aem is that the filter is located so far away from the TB that it creates a small flat spot in the revs, this can be sorted though with some sort of remap - my friend had a unichip fitted to his ek9 which got rid of this nasty spot. mugen airboxes are meant to be good but i'm not sure that the gains from it are worth the hefty price tag! other induction systems which use an open cone filter in the engine bay aren't very good as they suffer alot of heatsoak!

for the exhaust its really just down to preference of which one you think looks best and sounds best for you. BC spec 3, 5zigen fireball and spoon n1 are all quite loud systems but have very different notes....

there is a part on the forum somewhere that has the results of a dyno test for different headers. the more expensive headers such as toda and spoon do give the best results but the others on the market are not too far off!

In a similar boat, Im sticking with the oem airbox with an ITG filter for now, reading up it seems most Ik's have to be fiddled with to get them to fit, Mugen or Maxogen though later.
I have gone for A Tanabe 'concept G' full exhaust, its supposedly 93db, as I wanted a different note but not loud.
Called 5ZigenUK again today for a header, due to Japanese holiday they are waiting on a delivery, many headers are silly money eh.

I agree with your mods, you're going in the right way, what I will add to that list is a aftermarket ecu, with no modifications I was able to run the 1/8 mile, almost half a second faster just with the ecu.

You have options to meet your budget, since this is a "starter mods" thread, I will recommend a chipped ecu, for example from www.phearable.net I used one, and I loved it, with this ecu I ran the 1/8 mile faster just by installing it, you can get a ecu there for like 300 $ shipped so is a great mod for the money.

I will add the ecu change after you've done all this mods, so you can give the list of mods to the guy selling the ecu and he can figure out a good base map for your car.

Intake, Hmmmm, stock air box with spoon filter is ok, the best intake is the one who drives more cold air to your motor, the mugen one is my favorite, but it's way to much money, I imagine that your car will be used as a daily drive, I will go with the stock air box with spoon filter.

Also I recommend you to add a integra type r throttle body, its a plug and play mod and you will feel the benefits instantly hehehe :)

What size is the teg tb? Was going to get a skunk2 68mm one to go with my skunk2 inlet manifold which I will port match to it.

cheers guys....really useful info!

rvm - yeah the car is going to be a daily drive but i was already thinking of an Apexi FC :D thats going to be after the basic mods like you said...

ITR throttle bodies? - any ideas how much these will go for?

Cheers again

:D:D

just learning to drive an ek9 as standard is a joy
makes my giggle people want to mod a type r even before they have driven one some times , mr honda didnt do a bad job the way the come out the factory you know?
get some decent tyres , some good disks and pads your be well shocked how far you can push an ek9

got to agree with Fon...

i picked up my ek9 the other week and it is standard apart from header/exhaust/spoon drop in filter, i also had 4 brand new potenza re010's fitted and the car was fully serviced with new cambelt etc and it is an absolute hoot to drive! i'm planning on keeping mine as it is and save my money for keeping it in top condition rather than trying to modify it :D
