Engine check light. Not revving more than 2000 - 3000 revs =/

Hey guys.
Just got a car down from the UK ... a Civic VTI-S 1998 black =)
When I went to start it the engine check light went on.
Then I drove to work and it turned off after a while and didn't come back on after that. Should I get it checked out? And how please?

Also When I rev the car on first and second gear the car only goes up till about 3,000 revs and like gets stuck there =/ =/
What could that be?
It happened once when I was driving and I stopped the car, gave it a couple of good revs and then it was alright.

There is a fault and your ECU is going into limp mod to protect the engine. Get a diagnostic performed and find out what fault code is being thrown up. Don't drive it until you have.
