Hi people,

Ive got this problem that has accured from passed 2-3weeks and just ever so often does it now and then, my car is an 1998 EJ9 with a Stock B16b swapped with least 85k on engine now, i dont totally know much with mechanical stuff on cars atm but learning as i go along :nice: Ive had 2 engine swaps from the earlys of this year from a D14 - B18C4 (modified and newly rebuilt) & to now B16b installed from at least a month and abit ago and since ive had the engine swapped over from my D14 to the C4 the engine management had been constantly lit up when engine is running. My mate checked the ECU code and read out to be to do with lambda sensor, so changed that with to an EK9 one, after that still showing with the management light on, so got my car diagnosed and the guy mentioned its to do with the wiring loom that is on my car now not being a genuine EK9 loom for my B16b, tells me that im still using a UK loom on an JDM engine, this is to cause the engine management to light up (probably from the C4 swap) so im on a search to buy one soon!

Problem is now and then my revs (either after a drive to a stand still or just switching ignition on) sometimes the revs is really low (under 1000rpm) and seems to judder alot, seems like the engine is about to stall aswell as choking at the same time and if i just put my foot on the acceleration pedal a little bit the revs pick up ever so slowly and seem to struggle to pick up aswell making this wierd bubbly noise when revs pick up, then i get a big wiff of fuel coming out of the exhaust. :(( Now im very  what problem this is causing it to do this? whether i need to get this wiring loom sorted and things are back to normal and should solve the problem or ... ?

Spec on engine:
Stock EK9 B16b engine
OEM airfilter
OEM manifold
JDM Baffle Decat
5zigen Border 304 catback

If this helps.. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated as i want to get this fixed :please:

Thanks
Pat

The reason for the light lighting up with your UK loom is that you knock sensor is not connected now and the ECU detects that and lights up. But I've had that too and my B16A (JDM) drove fine. I would be inclined to say that shouldn't be the problem. Leaking petrol from your exhaust makes me think of 3 things:
- Your engine is not igniting (well), therefor the petrol does not get burned and exits through the exhaust
- Your fuel system does not inject the right amount of petrol, maybe too much?
- Is the used loom the same OBD that is suppose to go with the engine?

So I'd start with checking those two things. Check your plugs, your ignition, your injectors etc. Also read out your own ECU: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=1901557

Never had this problem or heard of it and I'm certainly not a qualified mechanic, but I'm trying to think logically. Try to think of all the things that might cause this and then step by step rule out every possible cause.

The exact same thing happened on my b16b conversion... The fuse box beside your battery needs to be changed to a jap fuse box... Fixed mine straight away... hope that helps... :))

Hope that will be it, would be an easy fix :nice:

Thanks for the heads up JT i will deffo look into it but as you mentioned the first 2 points you made sometimes seem to put into action. Which i am a little concerned about as sometimes when the problem happens it reaks of fuel from behind onces ignition is switched on and it just seem like the engine is like drowned with petrol or so. As ''Crunchie11'' mentioned with the fuse box ive had a friend of mine mentioning about that but he wasnt 100% certain with it, so i didnt think about that being the problem at all, but i think that kinda starting to make sense now as the fuse box in my bay im sure its still an EJ9 one :secret: Would i need this fuse box out from an EK9?

Thanks for some info an help guys! :nice:

AFAIK any JDM DC2 or EK9 fusebox will do, maybe even UKDM DC2 or even D16Z6 fusebox. I used my D16Z6 fusebox for my JDM B16A.

Its miss-firing , can be caused by alot of things,

Take out your spark plugs and see which ones are wet with petrol.

Make sure the plugs / leads ok , ignition leads on right , ignition timing is good ,
all earths are connected and clean

As far as i know any jap fuse box would do the job... I used a 98 spec ek9 one and it worked perfect, the wiring diagram might be slightly different though... Only a small difference... I hope that helps... :))

very good shout!

i didnt think there was much difference with a JDM car and a UKDM car, untill i put a UKDM engine and a USDM ecu in my EK9.

i used a UKDM engine, a USDM ECU and a JDM Alternator, fuse box and Harness with a JDM car

my EK9's Voltage was terrrible 11-12volts all 3 different DM's didnt work with eachother. as soon as i fitted a UK harness and UK Alternator my voltage went back to its normal operation.

so if your gonna mix different domestic markets make sure they are all the same or work with eachover

I think that this is the case of miss firing as Darragh_K said, this wont be the case of the engine managenent light bein on also not using correct wiring loom and fuse box would it? :((
