Hey guys

I was speaking to a friend earlier about exhaust systems etc. I was telling him that my fabricator would be building me a custom straight through system if I get an ek9.

He was saying that, I would be better off with a cat back system, that had a silencer box, as n/a cars need t certain amount of back pressure?.
I was always under the notion that straight through/ decated systems were a better option.
Is there any truth to what my friend said, i.e. cat back zorst etc would be better?

Thanks

Totally correct, specially in 1.6 motors, full race engines benefit more of direct exhaust systems.

I had a comptech race exhaust on my b16b, the weight of it was like 6 pounds, and the exhaust exit was right in the middle of the car.

I test it in the 1/8 mile, and I did a time of 10.20s.

I sold this exhaust and decided to install the exhaust that the car had when it came from japan Mugen complete Exhaust system, The weight of the full exhaust + muffler was like 70 - 75 pounds.

Went to the 1/8 mile, no other modificaction...

And I did a time of 10.00 !

hope this helps

Ah right. So what about guys that run decats dude? Its definately not recommended on the b16b, and cat backs are better?

No, the cat back system gives the back pressure, the cat just helps the environment, I don't use a cat.

Cool, so the a full straight through system would be better? What sort of power gains does the mugen give, and what does it sound like?

The mugen cat back is very quiet for a performance exhaust. I had one on my Integra type r which I had before the ek9 and I was very happy with it. Wouldn't mind getting one for my ek9;)

What system do you have on your ek9 mate, and is it decatted?

i think im going to make an official exhuast flow thread, yeah im going to do it right now, im not saying you guys are wrong but your kind of on the wrong track, back pressure is BAD BAD BAD!! you NEVER want back pressure, ill explain in my post. ill post the link here once im done.

sorry blinx9900 we are all newbies :( hehehe

nothing to do with being a newbie its just a lot of misinformation is out there, ive met people with tons of professional experience that still think back pressure is good, thats why i wrote the article :nice:
