F***ing Accident

The rear axle is bend anyway, ur never gonna get the same cornering and trackfeeling with the car if its fixxed, just parted out an ITRdc2 with simular damage, got some pics of the axle (the part between the LCA's where ur swaybar is mounted on, its bent about 10 degrees, good luck! :((
first of all there is no rear axle on ek9 so please dont spread misinformation, also the rear trailing arm took most of the damage which is an easy fix as said earlier as long as body mounting points aren't compromised. And it will drive good as new even with used parts as long as the work is sound and alignment is proper.

Thanks for clarifying that. Blinx the car is an EK4 SiR.

Spoke to the insurance guy, who came to give me a courtesy car and he said, the my insurance company thinks it's a right off, from what I described. So not happy about this!

Taking one day at a time now, I'm just hoping it can be fixed

The EK has independant supension, and hence the set up on a EK4 is very similar to an EK9. ie design principles are the same! therefore replacing the trailing arm should resolve the problem assuming all other componets are compromised as blinx has said. i would guess your insurance company is think that as the rear quater is damaged then this will be the expensive part.

You`re lucky to get away with a trailing arm. Imagine that impact happening in the rear part.... I hope you get things sorted out with your insurance company.

if they write your car off then the insurance company effectly own your car, you could ask for the option of having a pay out but buying your car back for a small amount of cash, usually a few hundred quid,
use the pay out to get the car repaired using second hand parts etc,
know quite a few people who have done this and come out of it with there car fixed and some extra£££
not saying it will work out that way for you, but its worth keeping in mind.

Pretty sure I have a couple of spare trailing arms floating around, I can send them to you at your cost if you want. All EK should be the same, I have used EK3/4 LCA on my EK9 before. You can get these kinds of parts for free or a box of beers or something similar here in New Zealand.

If the subframe is damaged there's not much you can do on your own. It looks to me like the shock is at a funny angle, therefore I can only assume that its pulled the upper strut mount out of whack.

If this is true then its a pretty major job. My first EK9 I owned was imported from JDM land and had had a rear impact in the wheels area, and the whole right rear quarter had been replaced at some stage. I could never get the setup right on that car so sold it and bought another which was accident free and never had a problem again.

Wish you luck mate - I would be soooooo pissed if this happened to me, but I have the luxury of parking in a garage.

Good luck!

I had a better look at the accident again today and it seems that the rear axle arm is definatly bent, but more towards the wheel.

The trailing arm has also taken a massive whack and that too is really bent.

I think its the 'upper strut mount', but not too sure, but there's like a part which connects to the chassis and is behind near the break discs. that too has taken a massive whack.

Not too sure about the suspension, but I think I'm looking at a potential insurance write off.

The actual chassis looks fine, from where I looked at it, what costs am I looking to get this job done?

Will the car have to go through certain laws/regulation tests to see if it is safe after if it has been declared as a write off?

Thanks

probably just a vic check if its a cat c- they just check if the indentity is true and the parts are not stolen on it. but the car will need a new mot etc.

I hope Ajay doesnt mind me posting this but thought i would update with what happened with his cracking little Civic.

It was written off as a Cat D and I bought it direct from Ajay as I had a mate who was in the market for a nice EK. As you all know Ajay kept this immaculate and I was over the moon with the purchase.

As I suspected it was only the rear trailing arm that was bent as al other components are rubber bushed so aborb most of the impact when/if the trailing arm bends. Once changed the wheel sat perfectly and straight so that was that, and the panel damage was very light and an easy repair.
The Civic was then taken for an MOT which it flew through and had a full geometry set-up to make sure things were as they should be.....and they were.

So now my mate has a cracking EK4 Sir and i'm gutted I sold it :((

Thanks to Ajay for all the help and advice when buying the Civic from him, it was much appreciated :nice:

(Ajay is aware of the repair process and what has happened to the Civic so this isnt rubbing it in his face)
