I'm currently driving a Peugeot 306 2.0HDI DTurbo @ 90BHP (remap due soon). The car is fairly nice looking and gives most 1.6's a good run for their money (except Civics obviously!! :p)

I've been looking at the EP3's (01-05) and although they cost more then an EK9, the insurance is a hell lot cheaper.

Here's a comparison:

[90BHP] My current car, group 5: £890 FullComp
[108BHP] 03-05 EP3 1.6Vtec Sport, group 6: £960 FullComp

So although the EP3 would cost a lot more to buy, I would at least see a lot of the money returned when I sold it. However if I bought an EK9 (or a similar model) then the car would probably cost a lot less (and therefore return me a lot less) but cost a s--t load more in insurance (which obviously is non-returnable).

Whats the best sub EP3 civic with a reasonable insurance group to go with it?

They all seem to be 9+ and although I want speed, insurance is a big issue..

I'm 18, Full UK license, 0NCB.

Recommend me a civic!

IMO a EK9 is going to hold its value (if not go up in value) a lot better than a EP3 as second hand ep3 are flooding the market at the mo, where as ek9 are getting rarea buy the day ( due to being writen off or molested) for me it would be a no brainer, if you can afford it get a ek9 pay a bit more insurance but thats because its a better car (all imo of course)
if not then i think you would be supprised with the drivability of a ek4 and if you really have to go for a newer car then i suppose a ep2 sport.

Shivanna i replied to your other thread, i own a Black 306 D turbo and a Champion Ship White EK9 Rx, a good combo :))

The EP3 is the Type R which has 200BHP and a 2 litre engine, you are thinking of the EP2 which is the sport. Best bet if you can afford it is to go with the 158BHP EK4 (VTI, VTI-S or Jordan) which is insurance group 15-16. I would wait though till your a bit older + have some no claims, I am 20 and insurance for an EK4 is still expensive for me as well.

Edit: I forgot about the EK3, that has a 1.5 engine + VTEC and insurance group 10 I think.

Honda Civic - 95 3Dr 1.5 LSi - 114BHP, Group 10, 36MPG
Honda Civic - 95 3Dr 1.6 VTi - 158BHP, Group 15, 35MPG

Hmm.. Still very high insurnce.. I mean for group 10 insurance I'm pretty sure theirs cheaper/lower insurance cars out there with more similar/slightly more BHP.

So is this 95 model the EK3?

Yeah, its 95-00 model. Its the EK shape, its the LS I think not too sure. The ones you just mentioned are the EG shape. Hope this helps :p Hondas are expensive insurance for some reason.

Lol, is there a site/post anywhere that shows which one is which with images (of the cars standard)? Would really help! :p

Both look mint but EK3 looks nicer imo...

Look what I found.. Think were on to a winner! :D

Honda Civic- 03/05 3Dr 1.6i VTEC Sport [AC] - 108BHP, Group 6, 43MPG [16v]
Honda Civic - 95 3Dr 1.5 LSi - 114BHP, Group 10, 36MPG [?]
Honda Civic - 95 3Dr 1.6 VTi - 158BHP, Group 15, 35MPG [?]
Honda Civic - 99 3Dr 1.5 LS [AC] - 112BHP, Group 8, 44MPG [?]

That is the EK3 congrats!, hope to see some pictures when you get it :)

Woah now nelly, the search isn't over, I could/might find a better/more suited one. Group 8 is still quite high you know....

Bah, insurance groups, MPG? The true petrol head worries not about these things!

The question is, are you letting your heart or your head decide...

I'm letting my wallet decide!

Best 3 options so far:

Honda Civic - 03/05 3Dr 1.6i VTEC Sport [AC] - 108BHP, Group 6, 43MPG [16v]
Honda Civic - 99 3Dr 1.5 LS [AC] - 112BHP, Group 8, 44MPG [?]
Honda Civic - 99 3Dr 1.6 ES CVT [AC] - 123BHP, Group 9, 40MPG [?]

I say, buy an older civic with more HP with insurance on
1 side only... if you can afford the risk.

I had cars for 8 years now and never insured a car on both side.
I probably saved enought in insurance to buy a car :D
Anyway they were all "old" cars...

When your really young, don't buy something too valuable, it's not
worth all that money into insurance.

Well to be honest I think this 3Dr 1.5 LS looks pretty damn decent for group 8.. However theres hardly any of them around (none on PistonHeads, ebay or autotrader...)

With Full UK license, 0NCB, Fully Comp = £2k. Gonna work it out for 1NCB now.. Then with my Father on the policy. ;)

Do you really feel fully comp is neccessary though? In my 8 years I have never insured any car fully comp, and with the differences in price between 3rd party fire and theft and fully comp, I'm not sure I ever will.

Example - for my EK9 I would have paid £2000+ (Slightly dubious conviction history) fully comp vs the £870 I pay third party.

Can that additional cost ever be justified, regardless of the benefits offered by going fully comp?

I doubt it.

Besides, that way you can spend more on a better car..

Scrapped the 1.6 ES because its an automatic..

Heres my quote so far:

Civic 3Dr 1.5LS FC / TPFT
0yr NCB = £1907 / £1832
0yr NCB + Dad = £948 / £934
1yr NCB = £1053 / £920
1yr Hold license + Dad = £821 / £731

The £1250 one just go and take a look at it, all cars have potential.
