Hello everyone

I will be fitting an Oil cooler to my S2000 soonish and was wondering whats the best way to make sure I'm adding the exact right amount of oil so I don't under or over fill it?
I assume just filling the oil cooler first then the sump would be a good way?
Also I assume the oil stays in the cooler after the thermostat closes so it doesn't add the extra oil back to the sump.

Cheers
Chris

handiest way is to put oil up to the mark, start the car let her run for few minutes and just top up to mark again when oil is around the pipes etc.. check after a run when engine is cool to make sure its still at the mark

But would it have even gone into the oil cooler if the engine was still below 80oC?
Shirley it wouldn't have gone past the thermostat?

The thermostats are always slightly open.
For peice of mind, fill up the sump to the mark, then fill up the cooler. Go out for a run, then recheck, your levels.

Thats how I did it, just fill the sump the run the car until its warm which will open the thermostat and fill the cooler. It shouldn't take any more than a litre to fill the cooler so you won't run the risk of running low on oil. Then just top it up :)

Far less messy than trying to fill the oil cooler first I think.

Yeah opening the cooler everytime sounds likes pain in the ass.
Thanks for your help guys
NIcad7 I think ill just PM you my questions from now on lol

You do not need to open the cooler every time, or ever.

Pending on size cooler, you will need to add more oil per oil change. The dip-stick is the gauge to go by. Change oil, check levels, start engine and get to temp, recheck oil and top off as needed. done and done.

Dont over think it.

Do you not drain the cooler when changing the oil?

As above. As long as you keep on top of your oil changes it won't be a problem.

I empty it everytime, as i dont see the point of contaminating new oil with used oil.
And i also change it when hot as it makes the whole process quicker.
