I am trying to wire in my rear fog light switch, but dont know which wires i need to use. I am wanting to wire it into the actual wiring for the switch in the dash, does anyone know what colour wires i need? i would presume the red will be the live and the grey will be the ground, what colour will the switch be? i could be completely wrong with the colours lol. Also do i need a crappy external fog light to get through the sva or will i be ok wiring it into my rear light cluster? thanks jon

different people and different places will tell you different things in regards to the MOT and the law with fog lights.

i was told by the garage that fitted my external hanging fog light that a fog built into the cluster would probably pass an MOT but would not be considered bright enough by the law. i ended up going for a hanging one..can always rip it off and just keep it in the car incas eyou get pulled, and then say it fell off at some point or something.

Yeah i have just been out and bought a hanging one, i will wire it into the cluster once it has passed the sva. I still need to know which wires to connect it to. Anyone know?

i imagine there wont be wires there for a fog light, as the car didnt originally have one.. So you'll have to run another wire to the back of the car and use that one

Yeah that is what i am going to do, but i need to attach a wire from the light switch so the rear fog will only come on when full beam is on. I need to know what colour wire i need to connect to, i tried to get my meter in to find out but there is not enough room, and idont fancy removing the stalks.

You'll need the fog to work when your using dipped and main beam (not side lights).

Be careful where you take the 12v feed from though, because civics use H4 headlight bulbs, and when you click main beam on, dipped beam go out.

I dont know what wire you need to take the power from, but i would imagine it would be somwhere around the fuse box rather than the stalks.

Have you got a haynes manual for the uk civic? if so look in the wiring diagrams in the back and that will almost certainly help you out.

If your struggling let me know and i'll scan the page you need.

That is what i meant to say dipped lol no i dont have a uk manual to see which colours the wires are :( going to have a go today will try and meter out the cables to see if i can find wich wire i need.

Mine's got a fog light switch on the dash and two wires hanging from the rear bumper. Looks like the previous owner had a dangling one at some point.

I've just got one from Halfords for £5 ready for MOT in march, not bothered about having one in the cluster.

Well i have managed to fit the rear fog light to the rear bumper, took all the interior out and rear bumper off and ran the switch wire to the rear of the car. I have done it this way to make sure it is all neat and tidy to keep the sva tester happy. I have also wired in the earth for the light, all i need to do now is wire in the live and earth for the switch and it is done. I am not going to bother wiring it into the rear cluster now, as soon as it is sva'd and mot'd i will just remove it and tape the wires up until the next mot. Just need to find out the wire for the live i need now lol

id still keep the fog in the car if possible ;) as if you get stopped by vosa or the police and they do decide to check the car over you can get done for it.

dont know if its possible but couldnt you fit a ek4 rear light harness to your ek9 light, for the fog light. As on my ek4 i fitted ek9 lights with ek9 wiring harnesses to get the JDM rear lights to work, but i dont have a rear fog any more. When my MOT is due im just going to pop the ek4 rear light in on the O/S. You would obviously need to fit a fog light switch as well.

min is in place of one of the reversing lights, its just a red bulb in there i think

you can remove the drives panel under the dash and on the top right hand side of the fuse-box theres a rectangular connector that has a black and yellow wire going into it. remove that connector. strip the black plastic shroud back 6" and use a splice tool to SPREAD the insulation. Dont cut factory wires unless you really have to!, especially that wire which is primary switched live from ignition.

Bear in mind you need the switch to be illuminated and ONLY function when the headlights are on! on mine I let a company do it down south and theyve installed an illuminated switch with 3x wires going to it. I havnt looking into where its drawing its power from but will do on sunday if I get chance!
Im pretty certain one gets its switched power from fuse 30 under-dash which is internal illumination. the live probably comes from the headlight stalk controls!

I have just logged on to the site and seen the wiring diagrams posted up by craig lol. I have managed to do it without them but thanks anyway. For anyone else who is doing this themselfs when you remove the plastic housing from round the steering wheel you will see 2 white plastic plugs which are plugged into the indicator controls. The red/white wire is the one you need to splice into to get the switched live when the lights are on dipped beam.

has anybody fitted the fog to the reverse light in the rear cluster?

if so where did you get the bulb as its a large wedge type one, and i cant seem to find a red one anywhere.

thanks
mitch

you use the bottom set of lights that are in there mate, just cut the wire to one side and take the bulb out of the other side.

i dont want to do that i want to put a red bulb in where the reverse light is.

cheers

Since my drive to work this morning was quite foggy, i have decided that i better get my fog light working.Dunx has already installed the switch etc but i cant seem to find the correct red bulb to stick it in the reversing light..

Where does everyone else who does this, get there red bulbs (that are red enough!!) i have read a few people have failed for the bulb not being red enough ....

Also, does anyone who has an external fog light, have any pics of where you ran the wire through from inside the car to the outside as i dont fancy drilling a hole
