Hello,

i hope this sub section is the right place to ask questions about buying a civic type r, where to buy, whats important and so on.

Since my english is far from being great, it could be sometimes hard to read...sorry for that.

My father and myself plan to buy a Civic Type R EK9 and use it in the german motorsports scene (Slalom-Motorsport and Hill Climb (Bergrennen)). For those who dont know about those 2 motorsport events, check the following youtube vids:

Hillclimb Oberhallau (switzerland)

The hill climb races in germany are practically the same as in switzerland, but this vid gives you some cool impressions ;)

Slalom Event

I really hope that those vids can give you a good impression on my hobby ;-)

Iam not driving hill climb races, because i just started last year in participating in slalom races. I need a whole lot of experience if i want to challenge the german "hills" :D

So, the reason why we want to buy a CTR lies in our hobby: motorsport :)
We wont register the car for driving it on streets, because it will be heavily modified. My father is master automotive mechanic (<- google gave me this translation ^^...)and he has 30 years of experience in motorsports, so he is skilled enough to do the future modifications himself.

So far for our reasons, now i want to ask some questions and i hope you guys can help me answer those questions.

I dont know if we will buy a CTR in germany, usuallly the prices are ridiculous -.-. Therefore i want to gather informations about importing a CTR.

Now to the questions, i guess they will be somehow randomly asked...i hope its ok for that.

1. The CTR was built from from 1997 till 2000. Are there differences in those building years ? like: a facelift or engine modifications or stuff like that.

2. Before actually buying the CTR, which important informations should you gather from the seller ? (condition of the car, CTR specific informations and so on)

3. Since we want to use it for motorsports, we want as little as possilbe equipment stuff like air conditioner, electric window lift and stuff like that. I guess that will result in an cheaper price ? (maybe you heard a name like "racebase"/ "race-ready" version ...)

4. What do you have to pay for a CTR with round about 60000 miles (~100 000kilometers), as little as possible equipment stuff (like the above mentioned), NO accidents, NO damages/rust and no modifications ? Can you give me a price range ?

5. From where should you import a CTR ? Directly from Japan or the UK or ...? (right know i dont know a german importer for CTR´s)

6. Do you know trustworthy websites which offer to import japan cars etc. ? Maybe with auctions or offers from cars to sale ..

Hmm, i guess thats it for now. If more questions come to my mind i will ask you again :)

I hope this thread is ok and i didnt miss something on the board search ...

Thank you :)

Hello and welcome!
Try using search function, most of the questions asked have been covered many times!

1)
http://www.ek9.org/forum/resource-area/14052-pre-facelift-vs-facelift.html

2)
http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/1192-what-look-when-buying-used-car-blinxs-official-guide.html

3) There was a race base version that had no Recaro interior, no electric windows etc... But you will be probably struggling to find one. Otherwise all EK9s came with aircon fitted, this can be removed easily and most will have powered windows. A set of manual window mechanism can be obtained from an EJ9 where the electric windows came as an optional extra.

4) I would say around £5000

5) Not sure, I think importing from Japan got a bit too expensive, I would try to source one in the UK, logistics will be easier too.

6)Try type-r-dunk here on the forum, he might got what you're after!

For what you want, I wouldn't be shelling out for a mint low mileage example, save those for the people that want a nice car for the weekends.

Save yourself the money, get an older, perhaps slightly tatty one and spend the money you save on sorting it out for competition. A 'race base' is what you want, except from what I have seen, those that have them are a little deluded and think that the rarity alone makes them worth more than the better specced regular models. :angry:

yeah worth allot more because of there rarity.Cheaper to buy a car thats already been preped for racing have a look on donedeal.ie for irish cars as the market here is much cheaper then all you need to find your self is a courier.

@All

Thanks so far for your answers :)

@oifovo

Thanks for your links, i thought as much that i have overlooked something ^^
Also thanks for naming Type-r-dunk, i guess i will contact him sooner or later ;)

@Kozy&1.4POWER

I guess you two are right, i guess i can really save some money if i look after cars which are preped for racing.

The cars @donedeal.ie are really cheap, why is that so ? I have never seen CTR´s with such low prices ...some do look like "relatively" or really good oO ..

Thanks for explaining it to me =)

Another questions about the spare parts of the CTR EK9

Do you know trustworthy sources for spare parts ? (engine, gear box, clutch, etc.)

Thanks again =)

Hi again,

well i think its always useful to have a back up engine/gear box/maybe clutch too etc.
Especially if you want to use it in motorsport competition, like my father and me.

But i cant say for sure: Ok we have the money for the CTR and now we will buy a second engine, a second gear box, a second clutch etc.

About the spare parts i will definitely talk with my father about that.

btw. ive sent you an mail ;)

Well, if you're after a spare engine, gearbox etc then try one of the breakers on here. As for actual parts, well there's plenty of companies around that offer great parts for racing etc
