Gearbox problem

Hi guys,

think my gearbox is showing the early signs of a problem :nono: driving round town the gears feel slightly harder to go in and will ocassionly crunch. During a spirited drive, I will sometimes get a grinding sound when changing gear at high RPM (worst/most common in 3rd > 4th, assume its the synchro's??).

its not horrendously bad, i'm just a little paranoid as i've only had the car 2 weeks!

Would it be best to change the gearbox oil first as this is easiest and see if it solves the problem? And if that doesn't solve it??

Thank you!

High-rpm crunching sounds like your synchro rings are starting to wear down. You could try changing your fluid first to see if that helps, but if not, might be rebuild time :(

Just don't leave it too long as the crunching will just wear out the dog teeth on your gears and if that happens, it will be an even more expensive rebuild :(
