gearbox problem

as above guys my gearbox is making some ratting grinding noise and when press the clutch pedal the noise goes away at first i thought it was the clutch release bearing and when i drive the car hard the noise get heavier also when im turning i can hear some rattling grinding noise even when the car is driving i brought it to a garage and they told me its the gearbox bearing also when i go from 3rd to 2nd the gear crunchies what do you guys think i need to replace before it get worst i dont wana pick up a second hand gearbox just in case the sametin happen. also hard to get reverse sometime.please help.

Sounds like you need to pull it apart if you don't want a second hand box...

By the way, could you please try to use some interpunction and some enters now and then? Makes your text a lot more readable and you might get more replies :nice:
 
Input shaft bearing is probably in bits will have to remove gearbox and strip it to see

Get the box dropped ! No point buying a 2nd hand one in Ireland , majority for sale are all in bits !

Ive a 96 s80 sitting at home awaiting a rebuild , was bought from a ''honda enthusiast'' , my hole! there is 2 teeth missing of the final drive and a chunk gone from the 5-R synchro hub ... Cowboys.

Haha i know but i have s4c with 4.7 fd in my box,and if i rebuild it is going to cost me more than a second hand one but it also grind in second and crunch in third. im also thinking selling the 4.7 fd and go back to 4.4 as i use my car daily.

True it is gonna cost more than a second hand box , BUT at least you know its perfect , while the 2nd hand box could **** itself in no time , see what I mean?

Better off spending extra now so you save in the future !

To give you an idea to fix the box you need -

* Input Shaft bearing + seal
* 2-3 Synchro Hub
* 2nd gear if the dog teeth are bad
* 3rd if the dog teeth are bad
* MTF

+ Labour

So say €500-600 depending
 
hey guys i have purchase a new box everything seem fine,but im finding it hard to get out of gear.

This was hapening before i change the box tho.

i have change the release bearing also while the box is out. i also check clutch the by puting it in 4th gear and gently letting off the clutch and car stall.

saying that my clutch master is leaking a bit but i still have pressure clutch pedal is high up too could this be the problem any advise welcome thanks
