I never said you did. I was using it as an example of how the cooling system is more efficient using pure water compared to a 50/50 mix of antifreeze. I'm not recommending it, I'm just stating a fact. If this 'waterless' product has a similar viscosity to pure water then it will move heat faster in comparison as it has a much higher boiling point (the system isn't pressurized).
Its simple thermo dynamics:
Yes viscosity has something to do with heat dissipation but it is more about the chemical properties of the fluid that determines heat dissipation. I.E the amount of heat energy the molecules of a fluid can absorb at any given time.
Without knowing the actual thermal conductivity coefficient of this oil based coolant we can only speculate.
All i know is engine oil thermal coefficient is around 0.12 Kw/mK
and water is 0.6 kw/mk
Almost 6x as efficient in dissipating heat from any given surface.
Lots of other things play a factor; such as difference in temperature between the engine surface and the coolant aswell. as well as reynolds numbers etc
Looking at it purely from that point of view it is obvious to see that water will dissipate heat better than any oil based fluid (even of the same viscosity)
This is why i am saying you are likely to get heat soak when compared to the water based coolant. Even with a 50 / 50 mix with ethylene glycol (antifreeze) and the slight change in viscosity that this will bring it will still be better then a full oil based cooling system.
As for the boiling point...........there is no need for an increase in boiling point of the coolant as any water based cooling system WILL NOT exceed 100 degrees C - IF IT IS WORKING PROPERLY.
The increase in boiling point does not help, in fact all it does is ensure that a higher heat capacity is maintained for longer in the engine (HEAT SOAK).
Why would you want a fluid which is worse than water at dissipating heat to hold higher levels of heat?
it just doesnt make sense to me.
But each to their own, i have no problem with anyone running Piss in their cooling system if thats what they want to do
