handle - door release problem!!

when i went to get out of my car today i couldnt..the door (although unlocked) wouldnt release, as if the release cable was to loose or just not catching etc. i reached through the window to do it with the outer handle and still not luck
i got out the passenger side. locked and unlocked the drivers door and the handles worked again. a pain in the arse if it happens again. any ideas what to look for.or is it jst a case of door panel off..grease and if possible adjust the realease mech etc.

looks like the release mechanism needs adjusting. it shouldn't be a pain 2 fix.
