Hey was wondering, my mate is interested in acquiring an ej9. Now the person who is trying to sell it to him said it was 14 VTEC... Was wondering is the ej9 really with the VTEC system? I'm a bit confused... Sorry if this question has been already posted however I'm using my tablet and its pretty hard to search on this. Thankx In advance for all the help that may be provided
 
I have a 1.4i EJ9 Clover Green Pearl. As far as I'm aware (not 100%) There is a 1.5 VTEC model however it should be clearly visible by the rocker cover. Anything below that comes with a D series engine without VTEC. I have the D14Z2 engine.

No worries mate. If someone is trying to pass off an EJ9 with VTEC, just open the bonnet. If it has a red/black rocker cover that's 1 clue. Also, Honda are proud of VTEC, so it will be there clear as day for everyone and their granny to see.

If it doesn't have VTEC, walk away. It might be a good car, but the person isn't being honest.
 
the chap might of used a VTEC head from the SOHC like you can with the B20/B16 build and made a mini Frankenstein engine???? but im not even sure if that would work or why you would do it, but I do know the ej9 came with the D14 98BHP
 
If it's a 1.4 EJ9 they definitely didn't come with Vtec of any sort.

I know it's possible to convert the 1.4 to have Vtec but it's a pain in the ass and pointless. At least with a B20 you have the torque gains of the 2.0 engine.

I call bullshit. No such thing as a 1.4 Vtec
 
Either he's a fraud or he's one of those who assumes since its "honda its VTEC". Thanks for all your support, our awesome!!
