Are all the headers generally good? Just looking at prices, 5zigen is £250 ish, J's Racing £550 ish, Toda £700, for example, is the Toda that much better than the 5zigen or are you just paying for the name? Is the 5zigen a 'budget' header? 4-2-1 for all round gains & 4-1 for more top end? A case of just buying what you can afford?
Those with a 5zigen & J's do they have a 2.5" collector? A previous car I owned only had the choice of upgrade to the newer model, from 4-1 to a 4-2-1 so a much easier choice!

Yea, price goes also with the name you pay for, so for example the Toda manifold is double the price of 5Zigen but is not of double quality, it IS the best header of all with the most gains but the price is disproportional..... I believe the same happens with other Toda parts like Toda camshafts which are enough more expensive than Skunk2 whereas I cannot see any signs of superiority over the latter ones.....The same with the Spoon parts as well...
And I consider the 5Zigen header not a "budget" choice. :D And yes, 4-2-1 helps in midrange whearas 4-1 gives some more peak power. Btw, 5Zigen comes only in 4-2-1 structure
 
wow manos, excellent answers!! just one thing if i may point out, a properly designed 4-2-1 header will OUTFLOW a 4-1 in both mid and top end!! all race headers are 4-2-1 like smsp/rmf/anr/hytech/etc...

and i agree with manos 100% about the price vs quality vs power. there comes a point where you have to ask yourself "am i willing to pay double the price for an extra 2hp?" OR should you just spend that money elswhere??
 
Thanks, theres no way I would pay £700 for the Toda, there are plenty of cheaper alternatives. Does the 5Zigen have the 2.5"collector, you have one Manos, not much info on http://www.5zigenuk.com/ (bore sizes/quality of material). I have a Tanabe concept G (3rd gen) full exhaust (60mm), im guessing all headers should be compatible?
 
manos you have the b18c one? i think thats the one everybody should get since b16b uses b18c block and since it has the 2.5 collector.

No, its a B16B. I will stroke it only if I get not enough satisfaction after the Power FC and a 4.78 FD installation.....:D

on i know motor you have, what i was asking is which header you had, if you had the 2.25 or 2.5 one, cause there interchangeable.

So if I am reading this correct Blinx, I could get the header for the b18c with the 2.5" collector as it will fit my 9? Ta.

Oh, I have the 6.3 cm (2.5 in) collector. Yes, I got your pic. Me want such a cat :( Is it yours?? :nerv:
 
Rang 5Zigenuk today, they are getting some manifolds in anyday now. The guy I spoke to said if I wanted to use the B18C one (2.5"/63.5mm collector), I will need a flange which they sell for £8, I will then have to cut the flange off my decat & weld this on to make it fit (maybe with a bend), as my Tanabe exhaust is 60mm, sound right? Is this what you have Manos or is your exhaust 2.5"/63.5mm? Or if they have a manifold with a 60mm collector should I just go for that?
 
bloody ell i cant keep up here, i too will be getting 5zigen header shortly so is it best to get the one that fits b18c then? i have a 5zigen catback so i assume id need this bigger flange fabricated onto my cat?
sorry guys im still fresh to the 9 lol
does it make a big difference which one is fitted in performance terms

I saw your post m8, looks ok. But it doesnt help me with my diameter question, need to sort that before I can purchase any header. Need more info!
