Hello from NY

Love the pro-charger! I do have a question for you though. I have done a tireless amount of research on importing a EK9 to the states. I've attached a link to a thread I did a while back with a lot of the information I found. I'm just wondering how this vehicle was imported? What was the final cost? What bureaucratic crap had to be gone through? I'm military and currently stationed in the UK, got my EK9 when I was in Japan, and would love to keep it! Unfortunately, I'm going to be leaving the UK soon and am going to have to sell. Everything I've researched and found points to a **** ton of money plus no guarantee it'll actually pass all the tests or get approved. Any guidance or paperwork you have from the person who imported it is appreciated.

Mine came over in pieces. Engine and body seperate. Not sure where it came onto land at, but ended up in Mississippi where a guy, former military, has a car lot. Then was put back together and titled through a bonded title. I then purchased it after the bond was done from the guy the original importer sold it to. Mine is titled, registered, and insured under the 10 digit vin. It was a bit of a pain to transfer state titles, but end the end it worked out. Only thing I'm not 100 % happy with is that the engine and car vin's arent the same lol.

Best bet is if you want one in the states, just keep searching until one pops up. They do sell all the time, hond-tech is a great place to look as I've seen several on there. Heck there are three or four original type R's in alabama, so you know they aren't super rare. I found mine on ebay through a local search of all places. Was only a 2 hour drive away lol, who knew.

My other 2 rhd cars were r32 GTRs and i know they brought them into us though canada then had vermont titles for them. How they actually got them in i do not know. But same as dropnotch says its much easier to find and buy them already on us soil but vandel has one already and is trying to figure out how too get it in.

Thanks for the responses! Unfortunately, seems like it's going to be a process that's outside my means. I don't get a say on what Port the vehicle gets shipped too, it would just be the closest one to the assigned base. Just going to have to stick to my plans. Thanks for the good info!

Since your in the u s military arent you suppose to be legally be able to bring one car back with you?

I don't have to pay the importation fee i.e. cost of moving the vehicle, but I have to pay for everything else to make it federally legal. If it's 25 years or older, I can bring it back no problem. The thing that holds me back from the ek9 is that its not NHTSA approved for importation and is currently on their denied list. Not to mention EPA fees etc... Which is why I was wondering how people import ek9's to the states.
