hi guys can anyone help me? I have a South African spec Ballade Vtec with the B16A motor. Want to fit the B18B block in with the vtec head strapped on but don't know if I should build the car 1.8vtec turbo or go N/A the problem wit6h N/A is that here in South Africa its seams its cheaper to go turbo but my problem is i still want to drive my car everyday and if i feel like going on a road trip still want to be able to do that. I was thinking of boosting the car to a max of 1.2bars on fuel and 0.7 everyday. Oh and in S.A we can use aftermarket stand alone managements I see most of you guys still use honda ones or am i mistaken. Advise on what you guys think i should change be it a nut or bolt will be really helpfull

thank you

im very close to considering locking this thread, the choice to go turbo or NA should be a personal one, there is more than enough informatino out there to help you make your decision and most likely this will just turn into a huge arguement about turbo vs na which is pointless. but i do believe we should be able to debate in a proper fassion, so i'll leave this open and see what happens, please to anybody posting an opinion please back it up with a techinical reason on why you have this opinion.

my perssonal opinion is turbocharge the car, and i have a few reasons:

-it wil have the potential to be faster if done right
-it is usually cheaper (dollar per hp)

for 1.3 bar i would suggest at minimal forged pistons and rods, i would keep the b16 block, i currently have a b16 block with b18a pistons in it and im running 1bar on 91octane with stand alone ems. no problems so far, but sometimes i wish i got forged pistons.

each option has its pros and cons, some say one is more reliable than the other, this i dont believe and this is why:

NA needs high compression and high revs to make power, both are very stressful on the motor and high revs are stressful on the gearbox.

turbo needs a lot of boost to make power which stresses the engine and increases heat a lot so you need a good cooling system.

a 12:1 na car is equivalent to a 9:1 turbo car on .5bar as far as cylinder pressure is concerned.

now one more thing, what do you plan to use your car for?

personal car just drive and enjoy it. Prob will take it to the track to see what time it runs but not for it being a geniune race car just so i know what the car can do. Why you think 1.6 block and not 1.8

yes, the 1.8 will have more torque, but on a turbo fwd car do you really want a lot of torque?
