Hi guys, having some bother with my civic. Not had any problems with it at all since iv owned it but today It would not start. Started fine at the gym, I drove to the shops and then it wouldnt turn over at all, I managed to get it bump started and drove home. I have now removed the starter and it works when I put 12vs through it, I put it back on and still nothing, The battery is showing 12v also. Tried using jump leads and still nothing. When I turn the ignition on The battery light seems dim and I can sometimes here a ticking sound from the ecu area. Anyone able to give me advice on what to check?

Regards
Martin

i had roughly the same problem on my old b16a2, it sounds abit like the starter motor is sticking.

firstly when you try and start it and nothing happens give the starter motar a quick tap with a hammer, give it a little bit of force but dont beat the s**t out of it. then if it starts you know it is sticking.

they get clogged up with dust and crap as inside the starter motar is a load of magnets and stuff that spin round, the whack with a hammer loosens it up temporary.

if that seems to be the problem you can take the motor off and apart and give it a good clean and get rid of all the dust and stuff, but be careful with the magnets as they can be a bit funny getting back in due to the polaritys.

if your not confident buy a new one or carry a hammer with you lol

id say when doing the 'whack with a hammer' trick, hammer onto a piece of wood with the other end on the starter and just tap it lightly, dont go whackin it.

opend your dizzy to see if your contacts are burnt out? make sure your batterys dissconnected first ;)

lol, cos 60,000 volts does tend to sting a bit as i found out only the once:clap:

Thanks for the advice guys. Turned out to be a bad earth, i replaced the clamp and added a new beefy cable and all is well:)

Cheers

Hi guys, this problem seems to have reoccured. My dash lights arent dimming now and iv double checked the earths and cleaned them all. My battery shows 12.5 volts and when trying to turn it over nothing happens, but im getting 11.5 volts at the starter solenoid when the ignition is turned. I think its possibly my starter that needs replacing. Could it be anything else?

Cheers

could be you ignition switch if nothing happening. i had civic at work that was like that if u give key wiggle about it would start.

Just an idea

Iv tried working the key back and forth and flicking it etc and still not getting anything. I was giing to try putting a wire straight from the battery to the starter solenoid and see if it turns over. Its weird how its just happened. Never had any bother with it starting before.

Cheers
