Hesitating

Hi All

Car has been playing up recently. I have an ek9 with a b18c dropped in and a skunk 2 pro series intake.

Firstly, the problem - on cold morning the car starts and then dies straight away, needs a bit of throttle when starting and then it's fine. It's only just started doing this. Previously it would start from cold no problems at all.

Driving about, car is ok while it was warming up, but once warm it has a strange misfire/hesitation. It's done it twice so far and both times I was in 5th gear accelerating up a hill. I was probably about at half throttle and the car just jerked, so I left off and then slowly applied the gas. same thing again, so shifted down and it was ok till I got home (but only drove a mile or so) I've not driven the car since.

Any ideas what might be causing the problem? Had a quick search and looks like it might be related to the distributor perhaps? I wanted to clean out the iacv, but I can't find it. I found the post on the forum with regards to cleaning, but I'm not sure if my skunk intake has somehow replaced the iacv?

I just cleaned mine, and this is what it looks like, it's on the back of the intake manifold :

This video also shows it :

Best of luck! It didn't have much effect on my car though. :/
Also replaced the distributor with a new cap and rotor. Didn't help either.

Misfire is usually related to the dizzy, bad earth may be and I was also thinking the iavac for the cold start symptoms

Yup, I agree, the IACV and maybe even the distributor cap and rotor. Both are easy enough to work on too. A good starting point for sure.

Thanks for the reply guys.

IACV..... I still can't find it. Here's a pic of my engine bay, it's just not where there from what I can tell?

With regards to the dizzy and rotor. Is it a case of I'll just have to replace both and see if it cures the issue or is there anyway of telling if there is something wrong with either part? Best place to buy new ones?

Cheers

It's located behind intake manifold mate help with 2 10mm bolts and 2 pipes

I don't want to throw you off course mate as it probably is your dizzy but I had this on my stock s2000 and it turned out to be the fuel I was running, I changed garages and after a tank or 2 it was fine, I'd go with the dizzy but just thought if have my say

well its your choice mate, the same thing happend to two of my mates aswel, one was a mb6 and the other ek4 vti

Appreciate all the input guys. Probably not fuel related as it had a full tank of optimax. Has been fine for about 150 miles and has just started the hesitation (down to about 1/4 tank now)

The dizzy for the ek9 and dc2 the same? best place to buy a new one?
