So i thought i should finally write a build thread for my CRX. I originally bought this CRX off billb who has kindly stored it for me for the last year while i collected the parts to get it running again.
The shell its self came with some nice parts, Genuine Js front lip, Hydro conversion, hasport D-B mounts, braided brake lines and a mongoose exhaust. So i spent the last year collecting parts to get it back on the road!
First things first was an engine.
A lad on a local forum was selling a B16A so i purchased that about a year ago and its sat in bills garage since. Around the same time i picked up a gearbox off a local lad, it was really cheap but unsure of condition of it.
Then recently i decided it was time to crack on and splashed some cash and got quite a few parts.
Brand new fuel tank as bill was running a fuel cell in the car previously and the tank he had was a bit rusty!
5Zigen manifold(off wellz EF build)
Exedy OEM spec clutch
Water pump etc..
Fidanza flywheel and walbro 255 fuel pump
Full polybush kit and EP3 Hel brake lines
EBC 300mm Disks redrilled to 4x100
EP3 calipers
EP3 caliper refurb kits
Whiteline front and rear ARB
Tein Coilovers
Team Dynamic Pro race 1.2s
Brand new LCA bolts and sump plug
Wind Deflectors
Nardi steering wheel, unfortunately the wrong one though so won't fit.
Broadway mirror, still undecided on this.
Cyberspeed rear LCAs
Smoothed rocker cover
Alpine double din head unit
So that was pretty much all the parts collected. So we organised a weekend to crack on and get everything fitted. So thats what we did bank holiday weekend.
First things first was to get the car off the trailer as bill had been storing it at his mums house he used to drive the CRX.
Quick interior shot
The other side has some laqcuer peel issues
One engine bay
Engine getting all new belts and water pump etc fitted
New rocker cover on with a new gasket set
Bill putting the flywheel and clutch on
On the engine crane this is my friend mike you can't tell here but its pissing down
Engine dropped in
This is how i spent most of my time to be honest(I'm the one on the right)
From the whole experience i have learnt a few things. I know absolutely nothing about engine conversions/the general mechanics of a car. But there is only one way to learn.
Another thing gained is that if you ever intend on doing an engine swap just buy a full car rather than everything in bits as you will be missing every single bolt imaginable. Lucky that bill had pretty much them all.
The swap isn't finished yet theres still a few little bits and bobs to do but i just need to source the parts for them.
I can't thank Billb and Matt enough for the help they have put in to get it to this stage i know it must have been frustrating for them when they realised we didn't know what they where talking about.
The plans now are to get the car running, get an MOT, insure and tax it.
After this i will be looking to get it painted keeping the same colour. Then further down the line after christmas ill be looking into a H2B swap potentially.
I have decided not to go with the 300mm brake conversion as theres to little choice in wheels and i don't think that i really need it. So ill be looking to sell it in the next few days as well.
Hopefully ill have more updates soon as theres a lot of other stuff happened that i didn't get photos of.
