models produced in 1997 are 1998 models. there are no 2001 models because honda stopped the production in 2000.

Stopped production huh? There's actually a 2002 plated EJ9 I've seen in Ireland. How do you explain that?

Honda made
7007 EK9-100 (1998 models),
4009 EK9-110 (1999 models) and
5225 EK9-120 (2000 models)
so there were 16241 EK9 Civic Type R manufactured in total.

where did you find this info? i want to check a few other models if possible

:nice:

In Melbourne alone there are 3 that are known (spoon-accord owns one, he posted on page 1).

Another one is a preface model in CW but the owner facelifted the front so now it looks like a 99-00 model (It still retains the single DIN and sliding pulley climate controls). From what I hear, it's got a bent front reinforcement bar from a previous front ender and possibly another front ender before or after that.

The third one has a rebirthed VIN I think. Also CW. it was brought into the country and got given a new VIN to comply with import laws or something.

There was a reshell that was running around in Sydney up until recently - the donor car was a genuine EK9 imported from Japan but since we can't register EK9's in Australia by conventional means the owner transferred the whole car into a standard Aussie delivered EK1 shell. The car was recently rear-ended and sold as a wreck to someone who's now transferred all the EK9 parts (interior, B16B etc) into an EM1:

also interesting are the JDM EK4 production numbers:

3061 EK4-100 (1996 models)
1787 EK4-110 (1997 models)
684 EK4-120 (1998 models)
641 EK4-130 (1999 models)
470 EK4-140 (2000 models)
in total there were 6643 JDM EK4 Civics manufactured.

I think Honda created their own rival with the Type R EK9 Civic. And I think that the last produced JDM EK4 are automatic transmission. Because the EK9 never was availeble with AT and some customers wanted AT and a topmodel engine.

All i Know is he amount around today must be alot less. all the crashed ek9s on forums & owners breaking them for parts the numbers must be going down pretty fast :(( Oh well keeps them rare :D

I wouldn't say they were all that rare, not in the UK at least.

Was actually going to go as far as saying that EK SiR's are rarer than Type R's. Also give a think about how many genuine Vti's you see nowadays.
