Hi all

Me and my friends often do top speed runs down our local air strip.

With my current set up the civic hits the limiter at 160mph easy its a s9b gearbox.

Its currently at 359.5bhp but building a new motor for more power.

Wanted to know if anyone had any idea what power and final drive i would need for 190-200mph.

Thanks simon

From the little play I've just had on a gear calculator, assuming 195/55/15 tyres and an 8800rpm rev limit
You'll need a 3.6final drive ratio in an otherwise stock s9b to hit 201mph
Not sure if that's available so you may have to buy a longer 5th and a longer final drive.

I'm not sure on the power, I'd guess something like 500hp but it is just a guess.

With a 9000 rev limit, 4.0 final drive and 98 spec type r 5th you could hit 199mph

that would really wind me up if i went to that speed and couldnt crack 200 haha

but yeah 200 mph in a civic would be scary !

Cheers im running 195 50 15s and on new engine be running pr3-2 type r head with stage 2 skunk2 cams. Anyone know what the tev limiter would be with those?

Thanks

Not sure how these cars will react at near 200mph, you might end up with a fair amount of lift.

i would suggest some downforce of some sort as jesse mentioned, but then you would need even more power to reach 200mph

According to this power and gearing calculator, you'll need:

9000rpm.
515bhp
225/40/17 tyres
4.05 Final drive
.787 5th gear.

Doesn't account for increasing diameter with speed, but that'll only help, 200mph is right on the limiter with that setup.

EDIT: That's all else being standard, road tyre grip, standard drag co-efficient, weight etc.

Make it a bit lighter, give it R comp tyres etc and it'll crack 200+

Miriam Macmillan is trying to crack 200mph with an N/A CRX... her record is 189mph from 290bhp! I would guess your ek9 would need a few extra parts to keep it stable at that speed though :)

If you want an actual record to aim for, the British flying mile record is only 191mph, you'll need a bloody long runway though!

Lol great minds and all that! :))

Very true haha seriously tho I don't think a civic is the car to be doing high speed runs in.... the paint will likely peel off,and parts will randomly start falling off haha make it more interesting have a set of speed sensored wings pop out at around 199 and see how far you glide lol

Cheers for everyones input.

The 9 is fully stripped with just a dash and a carbon bride seat, and externally the only current difference from standard ek9 is the c west front bumper and currently has a spoon carbon rear spoiler, but looking into a proper drag spec rear wing.

This isnt a race car just my weekend road and racer, but would like to get it near 200 just to say ive done it lol. Even 180ish would be impressive.
