I Got this Race comin up

This fella in a 91 CRX 1.6 SIR engine with LSD reckens he'l beat my ek9 on a quarter mile race.
He z he has to do a few mods first so race wont be for about 2 weeks.
I told him we can't use NOS.
The race is for 200 quid.
I have a straight through skunk2 exhaust from cat back, de-cat, 4 branch manifold, induction kit, upgraded leads and plugs.
He reckens he will win because he thinks the CRX lighter than ek9 but its not I think myself.
He is 18stone and im only 11stone so that will go greatly to my advantage :)
Also I will take out the back seats, spare wheel etc etc
Is there nything else at all I can do to try win :D or am I only wastin my time. Will I Def win :win:
 
Your mods will more than likely do nothing to give you an advantage over his CRX. You could have 250hp and he could still beat you. The #1 thing with drag racing is the launch.

If he gets a good launch and you don't, you are toast
 
Conditions on the day and personal ability will come into it, Are you running your car on super unleaded?
If not start doing it now so the engine is getting used to it, change the oil a few days before,Warm the car up properly ie let it idle for 15-20 mins from cold, also dont fill the car to the gunnels with fuel (weight gain obviously) Race with limited petrol thatll save you valuable weight.

The £200 should be yours providing hes not packing a 300bhp sleeper.....
 
hmm this should be a good one. do you know what mods are done to the crx. because going with what mods you have a standard crx will prob still take u if not very close. iv raced 1 and seen loads on the 1/4 they are king of the track for the 1600 class. they go like stink. they can run low 14s all day long with exhaust and filter i know i wouldnt be putting £200 on it lol good luck tho let us know how u got on
 
your man's crx is 91 vti. Its not going to be a 250bhp sleeper. I was with him when he bought it. Its on 17's at the mo and he's getting lightweight 15's.
He z I can luk under the hood b4 the race that everything is pretty much the same :D But what secret mods is this fella gona do that he reckens will beat me :)

agreed, and with that said i strongly suggest you buy slicks and start practicing launches.
 
Dont be racing or trying launches just before you race or your clutch will be hot. Check tire pressure and all the obvious things. Is there any chance he might change his cams before the race? if he does you could be in trouble those cars are quick even as standard. Be confident with your gear changes if you miss or change to a wrong gear your toast. And as blinx said maybe get some slicks they will work to your advantage
 
Listen to this....When you both lauch, scare the hell out of him by turning to his side a bit, this will make things easier! Nah, I'm J'k :D

No this fella wont have the cams changed.. O yea cheers for all the advice but dont worry I wont miss a gear and my launch in my honest opinion is top notch. I have got pleny of practice :D
 
From experience in waterford i have seen 1.5 sohc civics beat type r's because of crappy launchs.... Tyre pressure is a must... hard rear and soft front... try get it right. Run very low fuel and run maxol E5. Run it for now until race. Get alot of practice of starts on the same bit of road ul be racing on. Take everything you can out of the car seats etc. Lose all ur screen wash. All these add kg's u dont wana. I cant emphisise enough the launch. Dont spin to much or to little both is just as bad . you wana spin into power without letting foot off. Also best mod you can do is toyo r888 and get them hot before race.. about 150 euro a tyre fitted, just get front two:nice:..... that and if you want practice come up ere and we'll show you a thing or two:p

If its from stopped the driver matters more than car uless massive power differences which doesnt seem the case ere unless he is good at drag racing.... then ... well ha ha

oh what induction kit you have? if its not something very good like v2 put oem air box back in!!!!!!
 
there were so many things i didnt get in his post...must be that language barrier...200 quid..im guessing thats money? and whats 18stone? or any stone? weight? anyways good luck... ive seen ejs and ek videos on the track...their not the greatest strip car..great for track and autox though

Exactly what I was thinking. If you can't get hold of some slicks, at least get some stickier tires up front.

yes quid is money and stone is weight, also think again about civics not making good drag cars, the fastest civic is an EJ and its gone 7.8X :win:

I must admit it seems that pride is at stake rather than the money, i dont see the point in racing cause at the end of the day he might lie about what hes done to it and theres no way for you to tell, If he wips your arse you will walk away with your tail between your legs and you'll be 200 notes lighter...........
