....It would be called Elephant.

I've been hunting for EK9 insurance for quite a while and I had been expecting that I had to wait until I was 21 (20 currently) before I could feel the soft touch of a Recaro but I phoned elephant and they gave me a quote of £1100.

Just to check, as it is too good to be true:

The policy said - Civic Type R (Import) 1595 CC 1997-2001*

^ That is an EK9 right?

*I phoned to ask about the 2001 as I thought they ended in 2000 and they said it was probably a mistake.

I don't want to look like a spoon when I buy the car and then realise I can't insure it.

Thank you.

Yep that's an EK9 alright, really good quote too.

I've seen a Y plate EK9 fwiw.

Elephant seem be to be getting better.

My bro 21 had his teg for 2 and a bit years

Sky wouldn't insure him

Adrian flux quote 750 then upped it 100 a few day later claiming they'd made an error on info.

Then tried elephant and the quoted £630 fully comp with all his mods declared.

I know who i'll be trying come renewal hes 2 and half year younger than me with less experience and his insurance is cheaper than mine... WTF

I'm phoning around all the companies owned by Admiral (Bell and Elephant) to see if I can find an insurer for a Spoon Stroked engine, I think as long as they don't ask the difference in CC I will get on ok.

When a car starts out at 185 BHP I don't really see the difference in about 30-40 BHP. The acceleration would be a few .1's faster which isn't really a big difference, especially when they will insure me on a Nissan 350z for less than an EK9....Or a Noble M400 lol (0-60 in 3.5 secs).

They would never know if it was stroked anyway, not like they would dyno it when you crash it. Insure the mods that aren't in the engine.

Say you ran someone over and broke their back so they were paralysed, their claim would be up into the hundreds of thousands towards millions and the insurance company would try their best to weedle their way out of it looking at everything on your car.

Would you want to bet all your money, your house and all your posssessions they wouldn't check for an extra 10mm bore? :nono:

It'd be like playing the lottery everyday with a million to one odds on you losing everything you own lol.

Well I'd be damned if even CSI Miami, would know that you have a Spoon crank...

Im all for insuring my mods, but come on...

Guess I need to ring up my insurers about my Titanium retainers and bronze valve guides.

I would have agreed with you if I hadn't seen all ridiculous things that you have to write down as a mod on the insurance forms - bonnet bumps, stickers etc.

Maybe one of the insurers like Sky could clear up whether insurers check for stuff like that on a very big claim.

i just tryed elephant they gave me £7200 for my real age 19 and 3k for being 21 woth 2 years ncb wat the hell.

I'm in the countryside in the middle of nowhere maybe your postcode is putting it up.

All the other quotes I got at 20 with 2 years NCB were about 3K and elephant was £1063.

Try changing your postcode, see what happens.

Quite simply, if the car has been changed from the way it left the factory (in Japan or the UK) then YOU need to let the insurers know. It is not a case of 'if the insurers ask' it is a case of if you want to insure the car properly then YOU need to let them know.

You may find that a non modified/imported car specialist would really struggle to insure a vehicle with a stroked engine.

I'm sure there are many people out there with undisclosed modifications but I certainly would not recommend you try this. If an insurance investigator suspects foul play then they will do a very thorough checks.

Don't suppose you insure that sort of mod do you?

I'm 20, 2 years NCB and of a good postcode.

We can have a look at this BUT we wouldn't be able to offer you comprehensive cover on the car until you are 21 and we would only insure a vehicle TPFT if it is worth less than £5000. I would assume that the EK9 is worth more than £5000 which leaves us very restrcited on what we can do.

Yeh it's £8k and I'd want FC :((

Pity :(( Even with a hefty excess? Like £1500? I wouldn't expect like-for-like on mods either, just the standard price on the car if, god forbid, I ever crashed.

Im plannin to tell the insurance company about my VTI-S only having 2 seats (for the time being) would that make my premium go up? my renewel is £306 with 6yrs ncb and im 26, thats with tesco
