1998 Civic EK4. Does my car have an immobiliser?

I was driving today, about 40miles, then a few short trips, stopping and turning the car off and then went home. Went out to the car tonight and it wont start.

Nothing happening at all, just like a "hiss" type noise coming from under the bonnet when the key is turned.

Battery is fine with all electrics running.

Any ideas??

edit: when the key is turned the ABS yellow light lights up on its own, I've never noticed if that happened normally

does a green light with a symbol of a key keep flashing?
hissing sound is prob fuel pump but it does that when ever you turn on car..

Battery is fine and don't think it's the fuel pump, car isn't turning over or anything.. basically nothing happens when the key is turned.

The green key symbol just does it's usual 2-3 flashes and then goes off.. doesn't keep flashing.

ABS light is the only one lighting up as key is turning

I'm going to charge the battery overnight just incase, but all the electrics seem to be working fine.

A battery can still have enough power to use electrics but not enough to start an engine. Try getting someone to give you a jump start then you will know if its battery related.

You need around 14.5 volts battery power to crank your engine - get a multi meter on it - should have around 12volts then 14.5 when you try to start it (if thats the case then its not the battery)

nah u dont have to have 14.5v man, strong ~11.5v is fairly enough to crank your motor, thats what my voltage gauge shows every time before I crank the engine, 13.9-14.4v is what Im having while driving, and ~12.5-13v just after full stop with engine off... Does your car has green key icon on the dash when you slide your key to ignition? Could also be your fuel pump relay... sometimes its pretty common

Charged battery lastnight, (i actually needed it) but still no difference.

Yeah green key light icon comes on when key is put in. Flashes when key is taken out.

I'll try the fuel pump relay when I get a chance, thanks.

Sorted, smacked the starter with a hammer and it gave it some life. Replaced with a starter from the scrap yard and she is flying.

Close Thread? :)
