Initial D is a pretty popular manga.
TokyoPop's version of it is horrid! No, its worse than that! If there was a stronger word to use than horrid, than that word definately applies to TokyoPop's version of Initial D.
Initial D is partly based off of the exploits of real life driver "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya. Tsuchiya also is part editor of the book and checks it for technical accuracy. You know, to make sure they got every thing right.
TokyoPop messed up the translation by trying to hard to make it cool. They gave everyone nicknames, and American names, messed up the names of the cars, etc...
Its so horrible that you shouldn't waste your time with it. You should boycott the TokyoPop version and get the fansub version of the manga off the internet. It maybe a fansub version, but it is more accurate than anything TokyoPop did. Also some of them come with linear note that help you understand some things that you would only know if you were Japanese.
So dont buy the TokyoPop version at all cost. Also, if you love Initial D you can also try Wangan Midnight. It is also partly edited by Keiichi Tsuchiya! It seems that only the best racing manga are edited by him.
Enjoy
