Hi

I had an accident last week, details can be seen here -----> (http://www.ek9.org/forum/general-chat/5909-f-ing-accident.html)

Today the insurance assessor from the third party insurance came to assess my car.

He told me that the car was in very good condition :nice: and the damage done to it, was most likely to be un-economical to repair. :nono:

He also told me that I would be able to keep the car and they will probably give me a settlement figure. :nice:

I've gathered adverts from autotrader, pistonheads, forums etc to know what to expect from my vehicle

It's most likely they will compare my car to the UK VTi and I have a EK4 SiR. Mileage is around 78K and full electronic heating/AC/Climate etc

Is it a case of explaining to the insurance company that not many SiRs are available in the UK, and the cost to replace one would be quite high! (£3500 avg). The UK VTi similar spec to my car (milage, Reg etc) go for around over £3000!

What kind of payment would I be looking to receive from them?

Does anybody have any past experiences that they can shed upon?

Thanks :nice:

I had an Ibiza Cupra as my last car and it was written off last summer. I had to send my insurance company a copy of the service history etc to show how it had been looked after and also look on pistonheads and autotrader for similar cars the same year and mileage and print these out and send them in also.

I've heard of varying success with this but the insurance company i was with back then were an absolute disaster and it took them 5 months to sort my claim out and i lost a fair bit of money aswell.

i had a eg6 SIR that i crashed... id only had it for 4-5 weeks so still had all the original paperwork stating costs and value off importer etc. to prove the value. i ended up getting a figure of £4500 but not the car back (seems some companys make it hard for you to get the cars back)

i also went through every single aftermarket part on the car and got prices off the internet and emailed all relevant links and details to the assessor (coilovers, light weight rims, body kit etc etc)

you want them to know everything about your car, they need to know exactly which car you have so you get the proper settlement, don't bother listing any mods, they don't care about that.

I received a letter from the car assessors and they haven't given a figure to what they want to offer me.

But they want to discuss the valuation with me! :)

Anybody had this experience? Is this a plus point for me?

I've researched prices for B16A EK4, and they start roundabout £3800 and then the bartering/haggling etc.

I have had a car stolen and I found when dealing with the insurance company that preparation was key, copies of adverts, pictures of my car etc etc. They did start with quite a low figure though which seems quite common but I argued that my car was in great condition all reciepts etc to show it was well looked after. Then then gave me what I considered a good offer which was much more that their starting point.

depending what insurance company your with, if your on a like for like policy they will definately want to know.but if you havent declared it already then your stuffed. definately send of list prices for anything on the car thats declared.

I read your unfotunate post (F***ing Accident). sad :nono:

If you honestly believe that what they offer you as a final settlement does not reflect the condition and value of your car then I would threaten them with making this public on all of the forums.

I don't see this as bribery, just as means to get what back what you think you deserve for your car and to deter other people from insuring with a company who treat people unfairly.

An honest insurance company would surely understand this.

That would be my plan.

Keep declining their offers, they will carry on offering more and more til your happy.
Seeing you ek4, id say £3500 and getting to keep your car would be a good deal for you.

They offered me just below £2000 and I get to keep the car!

I showed them adverts and say it has to be like for like basis!
Where the eff am I going to find a standard 1997 white EK4 SiR with similar mileage to mine? with no mods!

I asked for adverts that they found and they just mentioned autotrader and ebay! I've been looking ever since the crash! And have not found one SiR similar to mine!

Im going to ask them to show these

The insurance engineer also said, that he looked on the import trade publications to price my car!

He is not willing to budge from his offer! Is he getting a big cut out of this deal or what?

Please help!

why dont you contact some import companys and ask them to do you a qoute for finding and importing a car near enough same spec as yours?

Thanks for that tip.

Would insurance companies take those quotes into account?

Or does the vehicle have to be registered in the UK etc?

havent got a clue mate, just thort it might be an idea, as its kind of same thing, as youd still be buying same kinda of car, so would show the price of doing it again
