inverted shocks


I can't tell you who makes those, but here is my take on inverted dampers...

Most inverted setups I've seen are for macpherson struts due to the high deflection potential and strain placed on the piston under lateral loads. They're very popular on STI/Evo suspension setups. It also looks like they only just turned the damper and the shock body upside down altogether. Typically the damper body and the shock body are inverted from typical, making the full assembly a wider diameter. The only place I could maybe see a double wishbone setup benefitting from this is by how the top mount attaches... Maybe you get even more camber gain on compression? Maybe be a bit overkill unless you're running ridiculously sticky tires, and I'm sure being 2-way or 3-way adjustable they are going to cost you a fortune even if you found them. (Not saying that you don't necessarily need them for your particular setup, just a general observation)

See below the inverted subaru setup, how much larger the diameter is. that is because the piston compresses in the shock body.

thanks for the write up.. finally made some sense.
could it also increase the strength of the shocks.. e.g for rally purpose?

so basically it's pointless for an ek9
 
It's pretty pointless for a double wishbone suspension.
It will also require additional up keep as inverted will leak grease out through the shaft (because it is upside down) and will require re-grease every once a while

The same issue had been faced by Sti owners who have inverted damper as standard.

We have a set of normal upright MacPerhson suspension that is currently on a BMW Mini in Rally Cross... it is just to prove that even the standard damper is strong enough and you don't really need a inverted damper for most application.
