IS my engine really gone?

My engine won't start again. Distributor, ECU, fuel pump, relays and all sensors have been replaced two month ago. Battery is brand new. Can crank but just cant start. Been spending thousand on all replacment. I took very good care of my 92 civic esi. I cant feel my engine is dying.

Now the workshop told me that my engine is gone. I wonder if they are telling the truth. This morning, they removed my top engine.

See pictures:

Deep socket is used to crank it, but struck at position. Wont turn anymore even with force.

The first and fourth piston is out by 2-3mm in height. Second and third piston is levelled. IS THIS NORMAL?

I would like to know if my engine is really gone. Is that the reason why my car wont start at times. I would like to know if the shaft can crank freely if normal.

Any corncerns, PM me. I appreciate all helps

Was teh engine running before the head came off?

If yes, I would suggest that teh head has been put back on without it being properly alligned with the bottem end.

The engine will turn over, but wont start and not fire.

get teh head on (if it is off now) and get a compression test done.

This will tell you if it is chinned or not.

New valves would be needed at the very least.

If you cant turn the engine over anymore, then you're in serious trouble...
Normally, when the head is off, you should be able to turn the crankshaft with 2 fingers !

and if the pistons are sticking out 2-3 mm above the cilinder block... that is not good mate... sorry

Esi (D16) blocks are a bit weak on the crankshaft bearings, maybe there are a few of them fried ?

Sorry to hear about this man :(

Ask your garage if they can remove the oil pan, this way you can look up onto the crankshaft and see if anythings wrong.

you shoud be able to crank the engine by hand continuously, have you drained the oil to see if there is metal in the oil pan? i cant see the pictures right now, i'll check later when i get home...

If oil has been out of the engine for some time, it may have seized.

Especially if the car was hot when the oil came out.

Had a friend who knocked his sump and put a tiny crack in it.

oil was dripping out ever so slowly, but he drained the oil out and the next day he put new oil in with a new sump.

The engine had seized solid!

He always maintained his engine to th highest level.

My engine is gone. The connecting rod bent again after chainging to a new piece. Guess there is something wrong with the camshaft or the block.

If your connecting rod bent it wont have anything to do with the camshaft.

More likely an imballanced crank or not correctly fitted crack.

Not correct pistons or crank etc etc.

It's a bit **** though.

Hopefully the garage will foot the bill for a new / rebuild engine.

i was hoping it would not be that... im sorry to hear that, do you have a cold air intake? have you been driving in rain recently? by the way is that a d16 engine? if so who cares, pull that garbage out and put a b series in there :nice:

x2 man ! :)

For the price of getting your engine repaired, you can get a B16A2 swap. That's instantly 35 horsies more :D
