Ok guys, thought I'd provide an update since you deserve it. Turns out the driveshaft seal was leaking gearbox oil. Checked the oil level and only 0.2 litre of oil was in there 
The oil starvation has caused a loud whine from the gearbox when accelerating. Gearbox oil was topped up with honda mtf and the whine is stll there. Car will be heading to a specialist...I've had enough
