Ok so I have replaced my drive shafts and in the process thought I might as well replace the drive shaft seals. So this requires removing the lay shaft on the passenger side. I have removed the lay shaft and fitted the new seal. But now when I refit the lay shaft there is approx 20mm of shiny metal extruding from the box. I'm sure the lay shaft hasn't moved relative to the bracket so I can't figure out why this shiny section is now exposed. Can anybody fire some ideas at me?

If the seals in the same place as the old one,has the shaft gone fully in as the circlip my be holding it out slightly, i did my clutch not to long back and one of the drive shafts was tight going in and needed a little nudge with a drift because of the circlip

It's the intermediate shaft, could be the metal ring moved exposing more shiny bit, or more than likely just needs a wiggle and a shove in to seat the snap ring/circlip

Edit, your metal dust cover ring is missing from the shaft...

It's impossible for the shaft to fit in further because then the bracket won't bolt up. Is it this dust cover that I'm missing?

Omg I'm going to have to buy an entire new shaft just because of that dust cover. Would it be stupid to run without it?

Cant you buy the cover, I brought most of the stuff to rebuild my intermidiate shaft.

well I looked on lings and its like the only part you cant buy separately :( unless somebody has one knocking about?
