I've been living on my own for a few months now and have been doing all my own cooking. So what does everyone else do for quick eats at home? I want to hear all recipes and combo's that are quick and cheap.
I'll start, this is one is awesome. It's how we make it at the local restaurant.

Ritz Tuna.
Makes 2 sandwiches

1 can tuna.
4 pieces of your favorite bread, toasted.
3 inch (7-8cm) stack of ritz crackers
Real mayonnaise
Lettuce, ect. optional

Drain tuna, smack facedown into large bowl to empty. Crush all the ritz in your hands and mix them into the tuna using your hands, until you can't tell there's crackers in the mix. With a fork, mix in however much mayo you like to use. Use the fork to spread on the separate sandwiches.

Enjoy.

1 package of low sodium low fat top ramen
1 egg

hold on i just got a text saying my friend was in a car accident... ... *goes to friends house* ok my friend is unharmed, back to the recipe:

I personally love noodles, add an egg and its perfect so
-1 package of low sodium low fat top ramen (chicken)
-1 egg pan fried with cooking spray
-mix the two and enjoy :nice:

Nice one blinx, just what I was looking for. No place is complete without some top ramen. Sometimes with noodle soups I'll do an egg drop right before the adding the noodles, where you mix the egg and then slowly drizzle it in as you swirl the soup.

Anyone else make stuff at home? I know you guys can't be eating out every day because you need money for the car. Feel free to post more complicated recipes for breakfast, lunch, dinner, or snacks.

for a more complicated dish that is also cheap i like to make some noodles with broccoli and dumplings.

things needed:
-1 bag of dried noodles from any asian supermarket $0.50
-1 bag of chicken dumplings from trader joes $4.00
-1 bag of frozen broccoli from trader joes $2.00

first with the noodles, i use half the bag which is 4 bricks, i boil the noodles for about 5 minutes, i pull them out about 3/4 of the way done and let them dry. then i put like 10 dumplings (1/2 of bag) in microwave to defrost for about 1 minute. Then i pan fry the dumplings using PAM cooking spray to keep the calories down lol. You can go ahead and defrost like 1/3 the bag of broccoli too and just set it aside.

next i pour about 1 cap of sesame oil into a pan and stirfry the noodles, i add a touch of low sodium soy sauce for color, continue frying mixing A LOT so it does not stick, then i add some teriyaki sauce towards the end pan fry till there done, i prefer them a bit crispy so i fry them a bit longer then i mix in the dumplings and broccoli and BAM! your finished.

this is enough food for at least 3 meals. It's also great to impress the ladies ;) But it does take time, about 30-45 minutes. You can also replace the dumplings with steak, chicken or what ever you like or add more veggies.

My favourite "quick & cheap" snack:

1 x Can of Skipjack Tuna (gotta keep the mercury levels down :p)
1 x Can of Heinz Baked Beans
2 x Slices Wholewheat Bread

Instructions - Microwave the beans for 4 mins. After that, mix in the tuna thoroughly, then rip the bread into little bits and mix in as well. Then enjoy :D

Total Cost - $2 and will have you farting all night :D Can't get any healthier than that :p

ummmmm a quick snack is...

Jacobs crackers
abit of margarine
cheese
cucumber

spread the margarine on the crackers, grate abit of cheese, sprinkle it on, cut some cucumber in small pieces and put on, BOBS UR UNCLE :D

to make this a little more flavorfull, add a couple of drops of lemon juice or real lemon,a dash of sason accent or some seasoning salt.not too much cause the ritz has salt in it already.
once in a blue i'll toast some pumperknickle bread and melt some swiss or provolone cheese,in a bed of fresh baBy spinach leaves.FUK! I'M AT WORK AND I'M HUNGRY NOW! DAMN YOU GUYS FOR MAKING ME READ THIS NOW.HAHAHAHAHA.

another thing that may help you make some quick dishes is to buy the meat and make small portions(enough for you, unless eating with someone)season the meat and place in tuperware in freezer.on the way out in the morning, pull the frozen meat out and it'll be thawed by the time you get home.already seasoned and ready to do whatever way you please.buy different flavors of marinating sauce, and use a different one everytime your in the mood.
you can also steam-cook your chicken with very light seasoning.so everytime you want chicken, just pull the tuperware out.
there is alot of little things that you can do with the meats, that'll help you make a quick and satisfying meal every day.

buy the tyson precooked chicken wings and chicken tenders, they come in different flavors.all you do is preheat the oven and whaaaalaaaaa.steam some veggies or some minute rice.to drink, you take 1-portion of seltzer water,1-portion of sprite, and 1-portion of merlot wine.add some ice and it's a refreshing drink, especially with pasta.

enjoy.G/L WITH DINNER TONIGHT.HAHAHAHHA:nice:

Desert:

1. Apples
2. Caramel

Remove the storks from the apples, place on a plate. Melt the Caramel in the microwave or in a saurspan over the hob, once the caramel is hot, allow to cool, but not fully. Just so it starts to slowly set but is still runny. Pour all over the apples.
Leave in the fridge to set, grab a folk and stab the apple, now eat and enjoy.

Or fu*k it, too much effort go to Mc Donalds... Besides, you get a free toy there.

Ingredients needed:

Fish fingers
Thick warburtons toastie bread
Tomato ketchup

Method:

1. Take fish fingers out of freezer
2. Place fish fingers onto grill covered with foil, no idea what temperature, full heat will probably be ok
3. Cook for 10 minutes on one side
4. Realise the grill isn't switched on and you've infact turned the oven on
5. Spray kitchen with fabreeze to try and remove the smell of burning whatever your mum had left in the oven
6. Repeat 3
7. Burn fingers while trying to peel the fish fingers' skins away from the foil
8. Turn over skinless fish fingers
9. Cook for another 6-7 minutes
10. Remove the black as coal fish fingers from grill
11. Put fish fingers on bread
12. Apply ketchup, apply in a smiley face kind of way, I like to write my name with it though
13. Eat

Blinx- I definitely enjoy the more complicated dishes. I need to get more into Asian cooking. That dish sounds awesome! I tried the fried egg + noodles one, it's simple and good for a quick meal.

Mfactory- I just tried that recipe, and it was surprisingly good. One of those meals that you can just wolf down.

Vtecboi- Nice one, but do you guys really say BOBS YOUR UNCLE? That's awesome.

Medjosh- Thanks for the tips.:nice: I do something similar to save money on chicken, where I buy a whole one and portion it out for later in the freezer.

Slip civic- :nice:
McDonalds though... I guess their fries are OK.

Tim- You should call that "The I just got home from the bar and I'm hungry Sandwich."

Here's a new one I made the other day-

Baked chicken.
Does about 3 meals.

1 small chicken + giblets
2 onions
2 potatoes
garlic bits
olive oil
water
1 stick of butter
thyme, basil, salt, pepper

Preheat oven to "kind of hot" (my knob doesn't have temperature marks)

Put the chicken in the middle of the baking pan.
Skin the potatoes and onions, and cut the onions into 8ths and slice the potatoes into 1 inch slabs. Lay the potatoes and onions around the chicken. Stuff some onion and garlic bits into the center of the chicken. (use cloves of garlic if you have them) Rub the chicken with the four spices and sprinkle them around the veggies. Throw some garlic bit's on everything (about 3 tablespoons). Cut the butter into slabs and lay it around on the whole dish. Pour water into the pan until you have about 1/8" on the bottom. This keeps everything moist. Drizzle some olive oil across the dish.

Put this on the oven's top shelf and check it every once in a while after the 1st half hour, bake until the chicken is golden brown. You'll notice the veggies get a delicious glaze on the bottom.

I even took a picture

Traditional food of Guatemala, we eat this food every 1st of November, is the day to "honor the dead" "dead's day" "Dia de los muertos".

This food is called fiambre, and is made of all kind of vegetables, meat, jam, weiners etc... you can find in the market.

Its delicious, the mixture of all the juice of the vegetables and everything makes it a great spicy meal.

My mom makes a lot of fiambre, and shares it with family and friends.

Tim that post made me laugh so much hahaha!!!!

Dino thanks for the compliment, its good indeed, only problem is sometimes you get noodles that taste like dust for some reason, you have to experiment with the different brands that are for sale at your local asian store and remember which one does NOT taste like dust lol. That chicken looks good too!! surely you can do without the butter to keep your arteries happy?

RVM that looks VERY spicy!! mmmmm :)

Blinx I guess I have some noodle experimenting to do. I don't know what part the butter plays in the backed chicken, but you only live once. Next time I think I'll use half the butter and focus on stuffing the chicken with garlic cloves and other flavors.

SlipCivic you should try the ritz tuna. It will change all your preconceived notions about tuna sandwiches.

Ok Dino, here are 3 recipes for the poor single guy (i should know, i am one) coming at you!

1. Mac Attack (my own name for it, so sue me)

1 bx - Krafts Mac and Cheese (its the best one!) or equivilent
1 pack- Hot dogs
or
1 lb - Ground Beef

Cook 4 x hot dogs (I prefer jumbo hot dogs because they get bigger and explode the longer you cook them!), then cook Mac and Cheese. Cut the Hot Dogs into little pieces and mix together, enjoy!

or

Mix 1lbs of Ground Beef with 2 cups of water, cook and stir. Cook untill Ground Beef is broken apart (like spaghetti or taco meat). Mix with Mac and Cheese, enjoy! :D (you can season the Ground Beef with salt and pepper if you prefer. personaly i use a lil bit of seasoning salt, pepper, and anything i can find in the cupboard)

Also, can be eaten with some biscuits and a can of green beans
(remember to eat your veggies :D)

2. Taco Salad

1 lbs - Ground Beef
1 pack - Taco Seasoning (i prefer Lawry's Lawrys.com - Product Details )
1 5lbs bag - Corn Chips (Yellow not White, you can even use Doritoes!)
1 - Head of Lettuce
1 lbs - Sharp Chedder Cheese
2 - Tomatoes
1 - Onion
1 - Bushel of Cilantro (optional)
1 - Jar of Salsa
1 - Jar of Taco Sauce (hot or mild if you like, i prefer La Victoria Hot Sauce)

Mix Taco Seasoning with Ground Beef, THEN (and only then) cook untill Ground Beef is broken apart (like spaghetti or taco meat). While Ground Beef is cooking grade the cheese, cut up some lettuce, tomatoes, onions (cut into little squares), and cilantro (optional). When Ground Beef is ready, mix all together in a big bowl. Chrunch up the Corn Chips into little bits (they are too big to swallow otherwise). Add Salsa and Taco Sauce, bon appetit!

Bounus points for also using Nacho Cheese!
*Remember* if you are really lazy, they sell at most grocers Taco Meat that is already seasoned. All you have to do is nuke it!

And now finally, last but not least. My personal favorite:

3. South Central Salad Fries!

1 lbs - Bag of frozen French Fries (you brits call them chips I believe)
1 lbs - Pastrami
1 lbs - Sharp Cheeder Cheese
1 - Head of Lettuce
2 - Tomatoes (you can use one but... i really like tomatoes!)
1 - Bottle of Thousand Island Salad dressing

Fry the French Fries with a bottle of vegetable oil (or if you are really poor NUKE EM!). Cook 1lbs of Pastrami in skillet (or, once again, if you are really poor NUKE EM!). While they are cooking grade the cheese, cut up lettuce and tomatoes. Once Fries and Pastrami are done, mix all in a big bowl. Put Thousand Island Salad dressing on top!

Mahalo
(if you need any more recipes, i got a million of them!)

Thanks for the recipes Bucci! I'll have to try those.

I've got another to add-

Toasty Avacado Snack

4 pieces of toast
1 large avocado
some garlic salt

Slice around the avacado lengthwise, pull it into two and remove the pit. Spoon out the innards from the skin. Cut up the avocado meat into little bits, then mash it with a spoon or whatever you have. The goal is to make a paste.
Spread the paste onto the 4 pieces of toast. Sprinkle some garlic salt onto the spread.
Enjoy!!!!!
