loud whistle from engine bay

there is a loud whistle noise coming from the back right of my engine bay (ek9) only started a day or so ago and was on/off now it whistles while idling aswell. any ideas? supposed to be driving it to 400 miles saturday and im worried.

appears to be coming from this area roughly, behind the engine down the back

Could be from the alternator, get a long screw driver or similiar and place one end to outer casing of alternator and put your ear up to other end and listen to see if noise is coming from there
 
hi mate, i did this and it does appear to be coming from the alternator but its difficult to tell, any ideas of what this is, if its going to break etc?
 
Possible its the bearings inside alternator. You could try remove the alt. belt and see if noise stops you can be certain then if its the culprit or not...
 
maybe you have a turbo you dont know about :p

could even be a small hole or tear in a hose mate check all your flexi's for signs and all clamps and so on are tight.
 
ahh its me turbo! ha! i doubt its the alternator charging because its only just started doing it out the blue. ill check the hoses etc but it does sound like the alternator. vtec6000 could be right about the bearing but i dont have the expertise to do this, will have to take it to a garage. will i be ok to drive to santa pod and back from scotland?
 
Haha yeah i had the same prob with my Ek4 B16a, i think it could possibly be a throttle body whistle, i noticed it when i had all my intake piping of, so this could mean you have a leak in your intake ?

yes you should be fine to drive it I very much doubt it will pack in all of a sudden especially if its only after starting to make noise
 
i noticed that when driving if im on accelerator the whiles goes away and when i lift off it comes back :S does this help diagnose any more?
