Low Balled, again and again and again...

So I recently tried selling my car (work related reasons) so it wouldn't be sitting around for 6-8 months, but all I'm getting is ridicously low ball offers. Multiple at 2000 and one at 2500. I'd rather let it sit and work on it later then part with it to some backyard breaker posing as a buyer.

I know my '9 isn't mint by any means but it isn't in really bad shape, or even bad shape for that matter. I figure it would take about 500 to fix the imperfections and get it 'clean'.

I just don't understand. I always see the "what's my '9 worth" threads popping up, but I know what my '9 is worth and what I'd take for it. I want to know if other people are experiencing this. I understand the point of bartering for a car, but it's been my experience that when you list an item at a great price (was trying to sell for 3000-3300) and say no offer someone buys it. I've only really experienced this in the UK, is this common? Has anyone else had this problem while trying to sell their '9? I understand the economy and all but what the f*#K!? Any advice is appreciated.

ADMINS: I am not trying to sell my car through this thread just giving numbers for feedback and advice. If you want me to remove the numbers please let me know.

Yep, more so in the honda community it seems. I had one guy send me around 30 emails wanting to buy my mint recaros for £250 and my response every time was "Im not going to let them go for any less than the asking price". He still sent me around 3 emails a day for a week and a half even though in the add I clearly stated "If I cannot sell these for the asking price I will just keep them for my next car" but that didn't stop him. It gave me great pleasure to tell him they had sold in the end though.
Truth is, you know your car better than anyone else. If you think the price is fair then just wait it out, someone will come along with the cash. Too many people are in a hurry to get rid of their cars, so they stick them at a ridiculously low price to shift them, which is fair enough if they need the money fast, but then everyone expects every car they see to be that cheap. Hang in there, someone will come along at some point.

I don't think it is 'scene' related. It's just life! You will always get some people wanting something for nothing, some of the time it's the kinda people who just can't be arsed to work hard, like the rest of us, and would rather try and make money the easy way. Nothing you can do about it, it's just one of the many **** things about selling things

yeah agreed its the same when trying to sell anything. people want to pay next to nothing and get evrything for it. i had my 9 up for sale recdently for £6000 and id say 95% of enquierys were people TELLING me! "il give you £4000,£5000 etc. CASH for it!" its a joke realy as if your just going to shave £2000 off the price just like that. never struggled to sell any car untill my 9 though suppose it is a lot of investment for a 10 year old car.

Exactly what were talking about. Received this in a PM today. I think it's one of the same guys to be honest.

Everyone loves a bargain, but we all hate bargain hunters

I do think the Honda community has more than it's fair share of jokers. Breaking my EK9 is slow going, don't get much genuine interest.

I agree, it's the way with cars in general, but even more so when you have something quite specialised. Most people on the road wouldn't have a clue what an ek9 was. I had the same thing when trying to sell my evo - ended up part exin it with another private buyer!

Thanks for the feedback and positive words. I got what I needed to hear. Just gonna SORN it and start mapping out a build (I've become inspired by the build threads :) )

I did get that as well, there are quite a few chancers out there for sure! But personally I don't get offended - I am the seller, they are potential buyers - anyone can offer me anything they like, worst I can say is no. One thing that does drive me nuts is people that don't take no for an answer, I agree with you on that! On the other hand, I also can't stand people who sell parts that are ready for scrap yard and try to get £££££ just because there's Spoon, Mugen or whatever written on it.
