lsd/transmission question

hello lads i have an ek4 with an s4c 4.4fd "no lsd" and a short ratio 3,4,5,i want to upgrade to a honda oem lsd,im asking 1st of all can this be done and if it can is it too much of a job?i have a doner box at home its a s9b "lsd" with a 4.2fd is it a case of just taking the lsd out of the s9b and fitting it to my s4c or is there a bit more involved?thanks in advance for the replies lads.ps i wanna keep my 44 fd.
 
not sure about the s9b lsd but the 4.2 fd is horrid on a ek civic. Its far too long. I would try and get a ek9 lsd at least then you shouldnt need to change the FD as well.
 
i dont plan on changing my f.d im quite happy with my 4.4..so ok your saying try pick up an lsd from an ek9 box.do you or anybody else no what else id need from a ek9 box to fit the lsd to my own box and is it a big enough job?
 
i've done this in the past, from what i remember you need the lsd and the bearings as the open diff uses different bearings. You also need to grind a small amount off the inside of the gearbox casing as it interferes new lsd. Or just use the s9b casing. It's actually quite simple
 
your FD wont fit on lsd crown wheel,it has diffrent bolts holes.you can get a box and put your ratios in it<from ek9/dc2>you may as well just get s80/s4c as they all have <short ratios>anyway.
 
completely forgot about that, you definately need the final drive from an lsd box as the holes will not line up as said above, i know of people getting the final drive redrilled to fit but it's quite a specialist job as it's hardened steel and needs to be very aaccurate but is possible if you can find a gear shop, failing that someone on here will probably have one after changing to 4.78 etc
 
I think changing to 98 spec S80 would be your best bet :) Only short gears and Type R LSD, which is better than S9B LSD. And also no need to get in the inside of the box. How short are your 3rd/4th/5th gear?
